I think we should all have a spyware competition. Using the PestPatrol evaluation software I found out that I have 702 'pests.' Can anyone beat that (come on, I'm sure you can) I just love the way I can go on the internet safe in the knowledge that 700+ 'pests' could be watching what I'm doing.
You can get the software at http://www.pestpatrol.com/Downloads/Eval/DownloadHomeEvalNew.asp

I cleaned off a friends with adaware, got either 300 or 800(big difference, I know, but my memory wont help me much here). What I do remember is that it was bad, he had been using Kazaa unprotected for a while, his cd drives were opening up and all kinds of stuff.

I have eliminated so much spyware with adaware and spybot, but no single person or piece of software has been able to tell me how to get rid of www.mysearchnow.com (http://www.mysearchnow.com) out of my homepage.

Whenever I accidentally type in the wrong adress it comes up as well. I HATE YOU www.lop.com! (http://www.lop.com!)

You might try "Cool Web Shedder". I read about it in Maximum PC magazine. This is the address they gave for it. EDIT: The link don't work. Maybe google can find it.

Ok. This one should work.

Adaware will get rid of lop but you have to do a custom scan and turn on (green) all the features you can.

I agree with you Rudehed, I HATE LOP

Had the same problem a while back and this is what a squad m8 sent me to take care of it. It works like a charm

just read the input...and i think i might solve some of the coolwebsearch issues.....

www.spywareinfo.com/~meri...icles.html (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~meri...icles.html)

on the bottom of that page u can download a program called cws-schredder... it is updated regularly and takes down most search-engine-captures... hope you can benefit from it...

cause reformatting yer system.... (you know what i mean)

be sure to restart yer system after you run it.. and possibly repeat the process once more...

Don't use Adaware alone, it will not find everything that's snuck into your pc. Try Spy Sweeper as that's taken all the spyware out for me so far..... crosses fingers. Using 2 or more spybot seekers is the best way to go. Ashampoo WinOptimizer Suite will also clean out your pc of any clutter and boost performance as well.

When I was tidying up a friend's windows ME machine, Ad-Aware "discovered" over 300 spy/Ad ware infections. Also ran Spybot and it discovered a fair few. Got to the point where the machine was so slow, I volunteered to rebuild it. Main causes of the infections was probably Kazaa (teenage son - Mp3s) also installling god knows what from cds. so I installed K-lite and recently went back to have a look - less than 50 infections. Also they have AOL.... (nuff said)

On a Personal level, I use ZAPro as a firewall and clean with Ad-aware on an almost daily basis (never more than 10 infections at a time if that) Usually from sites where I have to quit the firewall for them to work. This place is a good example with its hitbox stuff (which I have now let through za otherwise the site doesnt display properly) - thats about my most common spyware infection, although I did get the LOP thing once and was tearing my hair out over it for a few days...

cheers

Andrew

I run CWShredder, AdAware and SpyBot Search and Destroy. I have not been able to download any SpyBot updates for a about a month, even though it says some are available. It just freezes when I try to download them. Any suggestions?

Instead of making another post, I'll ask a second question. I know about shutting down all of the programs in the Sys Tray. I'm confused about CTR-ALT-DEL, going to the Applications tab and closing all programs that do not have a SYSTEMS label. Do I have this right? I'm reluctant to do it for fear of shutting the wrong thing off.

Hey When you find out please let me know. I have known you could shut down a lot of things, but just not sure which ones. I am the same way, don't want to shut down something I shouldn't. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

After it was refeuled i climbed in.With many manipulations the mechcanics started the turbines.I followed their actions with the greatest of interest. The first one started quite easily.the second caught fire.In no time the whole engine was on fire.Luckily as a fighter pilot i was used to getting quickly out of the cockpit. The fire was quickly put out.The second plane caused no trouble - Adolf Galland (first time in a ME262)

Where the hell are you guys surfing?

I just updated and ran Adaware and only found a few hit counter cookies. The last time I did a scan was in November. Its time to stop surfing so much porn and warez sites guys.

I think if you will run MSCONFIG and look in the Startup Tab and disable the entry for

My Search Bar Eq S4BAREQ.EXE

it will solve that problem.

I don't worry much about spyware.
I use Sbybot S&D , ADaware and Spywareblaster.
If kept updated, they do the job nicely and effectively.

Its the firewall i have to look out for.
Must keep it updated at all times.

No offence guys but I don't download/look at porn or warez either, nor to I have any P2P stuff on my machine - most of the stuff I get is hitcounter/tracking cookies.... have had alexa once and also, that damned LOP thing...

Yes I make mp3's, but then I have an MP3 player and use my own cds... The idea that everyone who gets spyware is a porn/warez addict is a bit wide of the mark....In my case anyways, cant speak for the others http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Plus I've only got a 56k modem.... How long do you think it'd take for me to d/l warez ? Life's too short LOL!

cheers
