A very interesting and famouse story, but, as states on the same page, an urban legend.

Yes, Airbot. Future provided this, not saying that he believed it, just "imagine this". The same page debunks the story as a very cool urban legend that many people still think is true. I must say that I also suffer from the disease of not fully reading everything in a post before I react. We are all a bit guilty of this, as is evidenced by some of the responses. I am going to try harder, though, because of an embarrasing post that I made the other day. I did not read carefuly, and made an *** of myself. Thank God for the "delete" function on these forums.

Actually, my girlfriend digged that out... she likes such stories, and is quite skilled when it comes to detect the weirdest things on the net. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Now, if you once again imagine what the scenario might have been with the JATO-car...

... there he goes, the most sorry version of Rocketeer that has ever been around, at 300 mph. And just when ya think it can't get worse, you happen to zoom past a police speed control... "*swoooshh* - Yo Mike, what was that? - I dunno Mark, but if that person survives the trip, he'll get the trafic punishment of his life" .... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I know tsisqua. I stressed that this was an urban legend mainly in reply to MustangWZI's post, which seemed to indicate he didn't notice this himself. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Anyone watch 'Myth Busters' on the Discovery Channel? (Does anyone outside the US get the Discovery Channel?)

Anyway, the whole show is two guys debunking urban legends. They went and bought a 64 or 65 Chevy Impala. They talked to the military but there was no way they could get their hands on JATO bottles, but they found some VERY large rockets that serious model rocket builders use. I forget what the thrust output was. They build a remote control system for driving the car and took it out to the desert. It was pretty cool watching them launch the thing. Here's a link with a picture of the guys with the car.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.
