Freemasons and the Knights Templar have been theorized to be closely related.

Many have theorized taht Freemasons are actually a product of the Knights Templar.

How do you think will this work out in the AC universe? and in AC 3

I've heard arguments for both ways. A lot of pop culture portrays the Freemasons as a successor organization to the Knights Templar. Others have pointed out the similarities between the "Square and Compass" symbol of Freemasonry and the Assassin Symbol. I think it could work either way to different effects. Maybe they are Templars that break off from the Templars that favor Monarchic Order...

Maybe some of the Templars see that the Monarchy is the old way of controlling people and the future will require something less obvious, like a republic, where people vote and they think they are in control, but they really aren't.

Maybe we need to wait and see.
