I like it.

I can't get it off the ground: is that a bug?

But I can have it airstart in QMB and in new coop missions, and I am having fun with it. It is fun going after bomber streams up at 10K m, with the contrails and so on.

It is a sweet plane to have fun in. Get in trouble, give it 100 percent throttle and point straight up!

It's a fun plane to goof around in, but I am VERY GLAD it can't take off from the ground. That keeps it out of multiplayer dogfights. And let's face it--that thing makes even a Ki-84-1c look like a Volkswagen van with a hang-glider duct taped to the roof.

Well, don't get used to the Me-163 being inoperational EMitton... Oleg and his team will fix it's engine bug with the upcoming patch.

Still, I think it won't be a big concern, as many servers have already banned the other jets again, so even if she gets fixed now, the Komet won't be causing much trouble.

If you ask me, it's kind of a loss not to have the jets and rocket planes in most of the DF rooms...

It is wicked. Got to keep your eye on the fuel on the rockets, though.

I beleive the original took off on a 4 wheel wooden float of a thing that came off directly after takeoff (look out for your flightmates below http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif) and you can hear this thing drop off as you begin the mission. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Holy Crap, is this plane fun !!!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif

There is a single mission for this plane
which is so much fun that I cry out loud
for an Me-163 campaign !!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif

The first time I flew that mission, I got
3 B-17 and another 2 P-51 when I gave the
Bf-109 which shoulda cover my landing a
helping hand . http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif

Played this mission several times and never
runned out of fuel.

Nothing can beat the feeling when you buzzing
nearly vertical thru a B-17 box. It's also a
thrill to be untouchable for the "american
fighter hordes". http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif

Energy Management at it's best !!!

I happen to know that a forum regular (not me http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif) has been beavering away for quite a while on a Me-163 campaign.
I reckon it's going to be a blast! (Excuse the pun http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)

Well, I agree that jets are nothing to do in servers playing, say up to 1944,but for the rest?I have seen on many DF servers the BI, which is also a jet, sort of speak. Why ban jets? They are part of the game.I mean, you let in any prop built lately, but no jet.I don't fly jets,so this doesn't affect me.I never look for a jet in DF rooms. In factt, I quit flying in DF rooms.Only Virtualpilots or Greatergreen.
Banning jets is ,if not chicken behavior, then is idiotic. Let there be yaks!Is much more easy.

How do you play the single mission? Can't get it off the ground. You have to re write mission, then you know what happens.....

Reality Settings: The switch for "Take Offs and Landings" to OFF.

Then you will start in the air and have saved already quite a bit
of your precious fuel.

Good Luck and have fun !

It is great, who has info on the Me-163 the Germans gave to Japan? the Japs changes it so it could fly longer, and i think it had two rockets in the tail insted of 1.

Wrong!

The J8M looked very much like the Me163, but under the skin, it was a different aircraft. While its fuel tankage and dimensions bore similarity to the "Komet", the J8M was quite a bit lighter, about 900lbs. lighter fully loaded than the Me163. The two main reasons for this was that the pilot did not have the armor protection offered in the Me163 nor did the J8M have the same ammunition capacity. The Ki-200 and the J8M differed only in minor items but the most obvious difference was the Army's Ki-200 was armed with two Ho-105 30mm cannon ( rate of fire was 450 round per minute, muzzle velocity of 2,350ft. per second ) while the J8M was armed with two Type 5 30mm cannon ( rate of fire was 400 round per minute, muzzle velocity of 2,460ft. per second ). The Ho-105 was also the lighter of the two and both offered a higher velocity than the MK 108 cannon of the Me163 ( whose muzzle velocity was 1,705ft. per second ).

That plane has to be the funnest of all the new jet/rocket planes. You can actually feel the kick in the pants you get when turning on the engine to full power. No lag like in jets, just instantanious arm renching power. This plane is untouchabe and by far the best plane in the game. I played a coop with 2 me 163's, and let me tell you if is some of the best fun to be had in this game http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks ELEM thats it, I can remember somthing about it on TV it was like a Jap version Luft46

I think we should have the J8M/Ki200 in IL2FB

Oh and the reson i thought it has 2 engines in the back was because I only remember "It was powered by .... 2 Rocket engines" but is infact

Toko Ro.2 (KR10) rocket motor

note! it says 2 in it :-)

Hi,

Yes, this plane is fun. I bagged two FW200s in no time at all (in QMB) - pity it doesn't start on the ground, though.

With respect to jets in DF arenas, I expect we will begin to see more 1945/1946 scenarios turning up now that there are more jets to choose from.

Besides, what with the Ki84-1c's uberness, it would be an idea to balance it out with a jet or three.

Cheers,
Norris

A bug?, maybe or maybe not. I was on Hyperlobby the other day in ACE_AEP server run by ASH_HOUSEWARES and somebody came in and started an Me163 and got it in the air. The start up procedure had something to do with full dive trim, stick forward, full throttle, and it would start, wasn't really paying attention. They got it in the air but ASH was still trying, its very difficult to start. One thing noted though about the 163 is you DON'T tough the "I" key to start the engine. Don't know if they hacked the game or not but I went to an F8 view of the 163 and it was ingniting but not long enough to stay on, the engine kept flaming out, was a very cool site to see.

i sometimes run a server that starts in the air, for the purpose of using the me-163. ive had p-80s above me when i spawn, and climb up to them, go past them, and watch them try to keep up as i maintain a constant speed heading up. i then turn around and blwo them away with the cannons. it would have won the war, had it not blown up when u look at it the wrong way.

The Ki-84-1c doesn't hold a CANDLE to this. A good pilot in any other late-war plane can still take down a Ki-84. However, the Me-163 is untouchable. Absolutely untouchable. By every single plane in the game. Why? Quite simply, it defies gravity. It can travel vertically for kilometers. If anyone challenges you, just go vertical, climb a couple kilometers above the fight, then dive down, blow someone else up, and then climb several kilometers straight up again.

To say this aircraft is abusive doesn't even begin to sum it up.

Just a slight over exaggeration there EMitton. About on the order of saying the Hoover Dam was just a little concrete.

It should be far better in the vertical than any prop or jet in this sim. It's a bloody rocket. The problem is that FB stops running proper FMs around 7500m or so. (there is a *noticable* difference at around that level)

In short it has the performance to highlight the weaknesses in the IL2/FB/AEP engine. If there's anything wrong with it at all (aside from the start bug) it might be having too large a fuel supply.

It's a great plane to fly, but it's a sucky fighter.

It can't turn to save it's life, it has mediocre to poor visibility, it is extremely fragile, it's too fast to really use effectively (too easy to side step it and watch the pilot black out hard or just run off a few klicks and become a non-issue), and it has very little loiter time.

And good prop and pilot would at the very least render it ineffective. Then just vulch it on the way down.

> ....and it has very little loiter time.

I never used up all my fuel. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif Climb, fire, still climb, engine
off, glide, dive, fire, start engine, climb, fire, engine off, glide,
dive, fire, etc. etc .... until you used up nearly all your ammo.

If you switch off the engine, your going into the "U-Boot-Mode", because
your sonar can hear the defense MG's from the B-17 in a distance of four
kilometers or more. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif

The "Komet" is a good glider. Use this ability. But ... take care that
your speed is up to a minimum of 600 km/h when you attack the bombers.
Never fool around with a B-17 and their defensive firepower. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Never use all your ammo on the bombers. There might be a Mustang or two,
which would be glad to have your tender attention for a short moment at your
way back to base. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif

If you run aout of fuel up high, you might be in trouble if there are enemy
fighters around. So it's nice to have saved a little bit juice for a save
separation before landing. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif
