View Full Version : Ground Gunners...

A minor request, and personally though it would be great I don't care whether they are moving about or just staying in position but I'd like to see soldiers around ground guns and other equipment....Say the equipment is hit...either have them laying around or simply vanish all at once....yet seeing a ghost run 88 as an example does take a bit away from the awsome realism of it all.

Thanks http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I think it would be cool as well,,,But dont you think that would be one more thing to beat up on frame rates?

I'm not so sure about that.....Like I said. They are simply additions to the 2 bitmaps, not soldiers as seperate objects. I don't think it would add much at all in fps, yet would in realism.

Every time someone asks for more eye candy, PC salesmen change thier order on the purchase of a cabin cruiser to a bigger boat! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/34.gif Yes, unfortunately, it would further tax our already overloaded systems. Pray we don't get all we've asked for in the patch!

hmmmm...I'd question the degree it would change it. Remember, I'm not asking for 4-8 "seperate" objects to be placed....nor that they be animated like other soldiers in the sim. I'm asking for the gun bitmap to be changed/added to/enlarged to have perhaps around it soldiers that simply do nothing, do not have seperate hit boxes, etc..

An easier way to look at it would be a guard shack.....Here is the shack, and in front of it the guard unmoving. Shoot the guard all day it does nothing....Hit the shack and it is destroyed its destroyed bmp showing the guard laying on the ground.

So simply adding a stationary figure to the existing bitmaps.

That's a well thought out idea LEBillfish.

No framerate hits, just a few more polys for the crew included in artillery pieces--just a few polys.

But that would require doing it for all pieces, but it may not be too hard to do if you just add the polys to what's already there but it may not be so simple you know like fixing muzzle flash *seems* simple butt....

Yea I wanted this ever since!
Just because it is often, that you start a mission on the runway next to a flak and it starts shooting at incoming planes.
Ghost guns....

Can not be too much of a frame rate hit if you compare it to all these guys running away from attacked convoys.

The guns aren't bitmaps. They are fully 3D objects with poly counts and textures.

That's exactly what I was going to say.

Well I would think there are objects that consider lighting shadow and such to greater degrees then others...those very complex and animated objects are exactly NOT what I am suggesting. Animated soldiers at so many locations WOULD kill fps....What I am talking about is equivalent to having or not having the 4 leg base on an 88....Adding the base which does nothing adds little.....The gun on top of it however moving does, so in the case of the 88, you would add to the base bitmaps (unhit/destroyed) then men doing nothing just additional minor objects.

From what I have seen of some (tank tracks and wheels as an example zoomed in on)....not every part of every thing has to be stand alone and fully detailed.
