I dont want to complain on anything in FB, but one feature in the online game wich seem quite strange, is when someone gets their "controls rendered useless" , There is this text letting the enemy know for sure that he has crippled u severly.
Now... I think its a bit "funny" to give such great help to the guy that have the advantage and probably will win the fight anyway http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif

If the enemy didnt know I was severly damaged I would be able to pretend to continue the fight or drag him and appear threatening, but when he know I'm damaged he knows I cant maneuver well and gets moralboosted to continue the hunt when he knows its an easy kill.

Psychology works and often when i'm out of ammo I can still scare and threat the enemy, because he doesnt know that I'm out of bullets.

----------------------------------------

This has probably been adressed hundreds of times....but the feature is still with us....
I would have remarked on it years ago but I didnt want to be just another whiner......and thats why I seldom follow the topics in olegs ready rooom.

my three cents worth.

I always felt the same - this is an arcade "gamey" feature that would be good to be dropped imo http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

...and its inconsistant. I've had one set of control cables served and my enemy got no message regarding anything wrong with my plane. I used the rudder and elevators to keep him off base and he crashed into the ground later.

So go figure http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah, this feature could be removed and I wouldn't miss it.

I do believe the level of messages is configurable. I *believe* in one of the readme's it says how to set what level of messages can come up. Not home so can't look it up...

You an change the message under the 'netmessages' file in i18n, only problem is that the server must change it for everybody to see. Lets say you change it be deleting the saying, everytime it happens online you wont see anything but the opponent will. The server must delete the saying of this line so it doesnt show up, or change it to "your getting close" or something.

"Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary force:
You are about to embark upon a Great Crusade toward which we have strived these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking" - Gen. Dwight D. Eiseinhower-Supreme Allied Commander.

Goodie, then u can change the message to

Its really pretty claer even if just says "Boltie_ _ _ _ob"??

The line in the netmessages.properties is:

gore_hitctrls2 {0} renders {1}''s controls unsuable.

If you delete the numbers in braces there should be no player names in the message.

But I'm not sure if a change in the server's netmessages.properties will have any effect on what the other players see.

I can think of a way this could possibly be to yur advantage...

It doesnt say what specific control line that he severed. So you could make it look like he clipped yur ailerons while all he knocked out was the rudder by not rolling...then if he gives up (Ok this doesnt happen often...) you can turn around on his 6. Ive done this before and it works sometimes.

What you're looking for is a server conf.ini setting. From the relevant readme file:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>
12. On-Line Stat Messages

The server hosting an on-line game may set the â˜level of detailâ' of the server auto-generated stat messages. The level is set in the conf.ini file in the Il-2 folder, in section [chat], in the autoLogDetail key.
Ex.:
[chat]
autoLogDetail = 3

You can set the key to the following options:
0 - disables all stat messages.
1 - only player-vs-player kill messages are displayed.
2 - displays player-vs-player, and AI-vs-player kill messages.
3 - a lot of chit-chatting.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I think this goes both ways as well. If I'm chasing a bandit and have penetrated into hostile airspace and get a "controls damaged" message in the chat window then I'm more likely to break away and let the wounded bird try to land. I know I'll get the "Enemy Aircraft Destroyed" after he hits refly anyway.

If I didn't get the chat message, then I might be more likely to continue the pursuit.

The only deterrents to giving the coup de gras is the wounded bandit might get stolen by someone that was flying close support and thinks I'm winchester or I could ultimately get dragged into the AAA around the enemy base.

Realistic or not, I can argue it both ways, but either way having this information in the chatlog definitely effects the way I fly.

He he....This is why we all http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/heart.gif U Boltie!!
U are the best enemy one can have http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Hmmm.....What about this then?
I call this the " Oberian sharkeffect".
Someone takes a few hits and trail smoke...and in no time sharks have gathered around to investigate the possibility of an easy meal.....but U have to get it first = line of sharks trailing the bleeding victim.

Any sign of weaknes ignites the fuse.

Now...this is poetry http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif

That particular message should never be shown because it tells the attacking player info he should not have. Kill messages are fine, since they happen after the issue's been decided.

Of course, the one about how a player has "beed" captured by the enemy always makes me shake my head.

I've changed a bunch of my messages, but I don't host much, so I don't get much opportunity to see them.
