Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Teeny tiny suggestions on the Finnish version....

3. Taistelu Englannista

I believe this is the term used for quite some time, and the this is how the Michael Caine movie title was translated too.

17. Normandian Maihinnousu

"D-Day" takes finnish pronounciation rules and urinates on them. Mixing front (y) and back (a) vowels will result in a linguistical short circuit - Don't believe me? Find a finn and have them read the word "Olympia" to you, you'll either end up with intresting face contortions & mooing sounds or "Olumpia"

<DISARM POTENTIALLY ANGRY FINNS>
...but then again let's see any other nationality try to pronounce anything at all in Finnish. Hauskaa p√¬§iv√¬§njatkoa, kekkulit.

Believe it or not I used to pronounce Suomi beautifully because I had to write down Finnish words for work and read them back over the telephone to people in Helsinki, so I had to learn the pronounciation rules.

Pity I could never undestand a word of what I was saying apart from "hyv√¬§√¬§ huomenta, mit√¬§ kuuluu?" and "kiitos hyvin".

Great girls and great vodka (Finlandia) though.

I'm off to hunt for Finns and make them pronounce "Olympia" now...

3. Taistelu Britanniasta vs. Taistelu Englannista

These both versions are widely used. I tried to find them in some of my history books and both could be found. You can use which one you like, all the pilots know them both.

17. D-Day vs. Normandian maihinnousu

"D-Day" is not Finnish, so it's not ment to be pronounced in the Finnish way. Btw it's not ment to be pronounced at all here. It's written.

Now, seriously. D-Day was only one day, June 6th, and if you like to use a totally Finnish expression here, then use "Maihinnousup√¬§iv√¬§". "Normandian maihinnousu" was all the big operation - the disembarkation in Normandy, which lasted several days and weeks. I still recommend you to use "D-Day". (Almost) all the Finnish IL-2-players know it and it's an exact description for that day.
