View Full Version : Pardon my WW2 ignorance, but didn't Canada have a role ANYWHERE in the eastern front?

I've always wondered why I can't select Canada in the armament area when rigging up my plane. Was there no involvement at all of us out there?

Sorry again for an ignorant question.

Also, even if we weren't involved there, doesn't our involvement in the rest of the areas warrant a simple inclusion in the list?

I guess Buzz Beurling would have flown RAF markings but still...

While the eastern front was happening there was a huge beer flood coming out of the Molsens factory in Ontario, and every Canadian ran over there with a bucket, sorry dude, you guys missed it.

I just want a picklist entry for Canada, that's all. Isn't there some lawyer that can help justify this? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

The RAF had some Spits there and the RAAF flew beaufighters from Russia so it seems highly likely the RCAF was in there as well http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

There were no Canucks there.
We had enough trouble supplying pilots to the RAF and Canadian units in W. Europe.

Dex was being a smartass.

200 of the Hurricanes built in Canada went to lend-lease to Russia Dex

"As the outbreak of the war became more apparent, an urgency for the fighter aircraft was a major issue. The decision was made to produce Hurricanes at the Canadian Car and Foundry plant in Fort William, Canada. The first order for the Canadian factory of 40 Hurricanes came on December 5, 1938. Design drawings and all the needed materials for the 40 planes were shipped overseas, and production began immediately. Eight months after the order was placed, an English inspector traveled to the Canadian factory and was amazed to see the wings were in the jigs and almost complete. This was a total surprise since the British were sill producing their Hurricanes with fabric covered wings. The Canadians were very successful at producing the planes and orders continued to come in. Canadian-built Hurricanes went to several different countries. Russia received 200, 330 went to the Royal Air Force, Canada kept 480, and the remainder of the 1,451 built in Canada were sent to Malta, Egypt, India, Burma, and Portugal. Over 14,000 Hurricanes were built between Britain and Canada and were used by over 15 countries."

"The USA supplied the USSR with 6,430 planes, 3,734 tanks, 104 ships and boats, 210,000 autos, 3,000 anti-aircraft guns, 245,000 field telephones, gasoline, aluminum, copper, zinc, steel and five million tons of food. This was enough to feed an army of 12 million every day of the war. The USSR depended on American trucks for its mobility since 427,000 out of 665,000 motor vehicles (trucks and jeeps) at the end of the war were of western origin."

"Britain supplied 5,800 planes, 4,292 tanks, and 12 minesweepers.

"Canada supplied 1,188 tanks, 842 armoured cars, 200 Hurricane fighters, nearly one million shells, and 208,000 tons of wheat and flour.

The Canadian tanks were various marks of Valentine. The Russians liked the type.

I thought the Canadians used the standard British roundrels during WW2.

Hey, Tall Canuck dude!

I don't know if you consider it the eastern front, but in the winter war of 1939-40 when Stalin tried to invade Finland (and failed miserably) there were some yanks and canucks fighting for the finns. Now they weren't many and they were mostly adventurers/idealists (Hemingway types you know), but I don't think they did any flying. I guess they did what everyone else did; ski ski ski ambush ski ski ski ambush and so forth.

Cool, Tako;
I did not know there were Canucks in Finnland.
Interesting!

Rattler;
Where did you get the RCAF skins?
I have downloaded all the ones on IL2skins but there are only 13 and only for Yak, Hurri, p39, p40 and 262.

Care to share with your Canadian brothers? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Because the RCAF used British markings. Squadrons 400 > 445 were Canadian. Australia and New Zealand squadron had numbers 400s but higher than 445. The Poles and Czechs had numbers in the low 300s.

At one time Beurling flew in Cnadian manned 126 Wing.
