...2.01 flight!

My computer crashed 2 days before the patch. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
I put in my new Radeon 9800 pro and all new drivers on top of a clean Win XP install. I finally got my Cougar drivers loaded last night and fired up FB V2.1 for the first time. I immediately went to the controls section & placed [ent] after the "fire all" command and then went to the quick mission builder. I selected 2 Spitfire MkIXs against 2 109G6s on Ace. Let's see what these new planes can do! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif

OK, the mission loads and I am in the cockpit. Wow...it's completely different than the MkV. Look at all the new bolts around the armored glass! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Oh yea, I have 2 ace 109s coming at me so a quick waggle of the rudder to make sure the pedals are working and I flip the switch to pull up the map for a quick peek.

Uh-Oh, it's not working...I can't switch to WW view either! I forgot to map the rest of the commands I didn't duplicate in the HOTAS file. I wasn't expecting to go full real, but what the heck. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

OK, full throttle for a climb 'cause they must be getting close by now. Oh no! The throttle doesn't work either! Well...at least I can remember to hit "0". http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif

A quick waggle of the wings and I see them climbing up to meet me. No range icons either! A roll to the right and I zoom between the leader & his wingman. They didn't get off a shot either, but I am already turning and pulling hard. A grey out & then a tentative test with my left thumb tells me that at least the microstick pans the view.(Momentary Relief) I pull around & up to catch a glimps of the wingman in a lefthand climb and turning into me. The leader goes by down & off to my right so I pull back & up towards the wingman....but I missed the angle. Another gray out as I pull over the top and now I am going to see what this MkIX will really do.

I dive & roll upright, sure they are both behind me now. They went up, like the good B&Zers they are so I follow in a climbing turn and look through the top glass to see the wingman turning to the left again. This time I have the angle right & let fly a short burst. At least I remembered to set the gun convergence to 200 meters. With about a half ring of lead my rounds fall short, so I pull harder & let loose a long burst. I catch him from the nose to the cockpit and see a trail of flame as he goes under the nose off to the right!

"Good shot red one, he's going down" comes over the earphones so I forget about him & quickly tap Tab 1 1. The leader must be behind me by now, and I hear "Roger red leader, I've got you covered" Yea right! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

OK, where the He** is he? I split S almost to the deck, looking everywhere and there he is, over to my left. I rack it around and go up, rolling scissors to the left 'cause I built up too much speed in the dive & I am about to overshoot. Roll over & look down... There he is...pull back & roll out level. As I scream down, he pulls up and I let off a burst and roll to the right. Did I hit him? Another pull up and around and I see him coming straight at me! Oh Sh*t, how did he do that? As he flashes past I realize it is my wingman. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

OK I've lost him again but he must be around somewhere. Then I see him low & slow. I must have hit him on that last burst, so I dive in for the kill & let off another burst. He continues on in a seemingly peaceful dive that ends in a cloud of dust as he slides to a stop. I roll to the left & look back to see him sitting there not moving. "Good shot red one, he's going down" comes over the phones http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif again and I lean back & relax as the Spit climbs leisurely away from the scene. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Wow...I love this game!!! I'm hooked all over again.
Oleg, Thank you for the patch! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif
Who says the Spitfire MkIX can't turn with a G6? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif

I wiped the sweat off the gleaming metal Cougar joystick & walked up the stairs to bed, vowing to remember to finish programming my stick soon.... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/93.gif

All this BEFORE you went to bed? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif Did you sleep well? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Very good story, puts you right in the cockpit with you.

"Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary force:
You are about to embark upon a Great Crusade toward which we have strived these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking" - Gen. Dwight D. Eiseinhower-Supreme Allied Commander.
