Hello all. After a 2 year hiatus, I've finally gotten myself a new desktop to start playing this game again. I'm curious as to what patches I should be getting. I have IL-2 1946. I know that there are patches on the Ubi site that I'll need to start off. But what else should I be considering? What are the popular patches out there nowadays that improve on the sound and graphics?

Also, for online play, what are people using now? We used to use Teamspeak for comms back in the day, but there was some other software for joining online play. Can't remember what it was called. Basically, I'm just looking for a checklist of things that are good to have in order to catch up with the community.

Regards,

Krieg

Patch order and download links: http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Knowledge_Base&op=show&kid=584 Latest patch is 4.11
Hyperlobby: http://hyperfighter.sk/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=2
Teamspeak 3: http://teamspeak.com/?page=downloads

Most online servers will be using either 4.11 or one of the mega mod packs. We don't allow links to mods here as none of them are officially sanctioned, however google will find 'em quick enough.
Be aware that some of the mod packs require v4.10 or v4.101 to work. Check the versions of the available servers in Hyperlobby before deciding which one you might want.
There is a "mod switcher" around but you may still get version errors connecting to some servers with strict anti-cheat settings.
To run multiple versions without the mod switcher, patch to the required version for the mod pack you wish to install then copy the installation folder to another location for modding. You can then continue patching the original folder to v4.11. You'll need a separate desktop shortcut for each version when doing it this way, and you'll also need to reset hyperlobby to the version you want to fly when changing versions.
