I have to wonder about its energy consumption.

Huge be sure of that. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I believe this is an microwave weapon.

There was a lot of research in that way in the 80ths (To build a deadly weapon)

Japan did research in that way during ww-2.

As a deadly weapon it never really worked in a way that would give it any combat value.

The german special police forces (GSG-9) is supposed to use microwave weapons too.

But these use other frequencies and serve a totally different purpose.

This is such a device (http://www.diehl-bgt.de/index.php?id=568&L=1)

They are also used by the ELOKA (Electronic warfare) division of the German army to jam electronic communication and weapon systems.

The next version of the Dingo-2 will be equipped with an microwave emitter for service in Afghanistan.

It is supposed to jam or prematurely trigger roadside IED's.

The same technology is in service in amoured limousines or airplanes of country leaders since years. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Well....., since the generator or battery pack that powers it can be mounted, along with the weapon, on a Humvee, the energy requirement can't be that unreasonable: ......Probably on the same order as some of the portable field radar units.

Well they say "the dish" is mounted on the Humvee but they say nothing about the power supply. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I bet a seperate diesel-generator is used for that. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I don't think that I'd jump to that conclusion: ....the weapon wouldn't fit the tactical role outlined if it was only semi-mobile, and required a "set-up time".

(....Of course, the U.S. military has bought into some pretty dumb things in the past.)

Some years ago I'd already worked out a more advanced weapon than this 'microwave'. Similar principle involving a parabolic dish, scope sight..etc

I haven't persued it further as I have no use for it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
