Well, it was 60 years ago today that the war in Europe officially came to an end. Hard to believe that so much time has passed, and so many of the men who survived are no longer with us. To those of you from the greatest generation who are still with us, we will alway appreciate what you did. And to those of your fallen brothers, we will never forget.

"When they speak of us, let them say 'for our tomorrow they gave their today.'"

Admiral (Soviet) Makarov to Admiral (USN) Kinnard McKee referring to Rich Haver (CIA) who was being more than a little smart about a submarine incident involving the USN Dace & a Soviet 671 class sub in 1968. The quote comes from a time on the verge of post submarine cold war, around the time of the Iceland Summits, approx May 1987:

"Tell this young man that when veterens get together, it doesn't matter who won or lost, it's enough that they survived".
