I have several probs with AC thought i meet the recuirements:
Intel pentium D dual core 2.8 GHz
2 Gb ram (its running on XP)
nvidia geforce 8600 GTS
direct x 9.0
latest drivers
etc.

Is it normal that on the beginning the ubisoft movie(the little "movie" u see, when u just press play, from the ubisoft logo)has some "glitches"?
Also it is that now the movies in game are quite working properly but not always, and on some points in the game its suddenly going slower, and on other points its just all going perfect. However when i start to fight its really really slow.

Im really wondering now what kind of videocard i need to run this game.

It sounds to me like you could have a virus or some other such nasty that's taking up some of your system resources. You could try lowering the settings. Most notably shadows and your resolution because they have the largest immediate impact. If none of that works then pop on a DxDiag and some of our more technologically savvy horses will be able to offer more help I'm sure

In the past few days I've been benchmarking the game with a few of the graphics cards I've got laying around. For one would you mind posting how much vram your 8600gts has? A DxDiag would also be helpful but if you're running on a video card with 256mb you might be getting some slowdown during movies/gameplay. Now back to what I was saying this game is interesting as far as how taxing it is. Of course you have your top of the line 8800gtx's and your new 9000 series that are generally running this with minimal hiccups. After testing some of the less recent video cards it will be rough to keep up an average of 60 fps, but isn't that the case with any game these days? I did test on an old 8600gt which is, despite the name, a MAJOR step down from your current card. I definitly didn't do the best, but it was playable. I haven't tested any cards outside of the nvidia brand but I do plan on doing some benchmarking on others soon. One thing I have noticed is that your resolution causes a massive dropoff in fps. (Like bobfish said) Another thing that may be happening is v-sync. v-sync will lock your frame rate which can drop you from 60 to 30 pretty quickly if you get in a spot where your computer has to process alot, much like a fight with multiple guards. Turning v-sync off will sometimes let you get to a higher fps but screen shearing may occur which can become a little irritating. Another thing about the videos is that they can be VERY demanding on your system. I've noticed it alot when games get ported to pc, such as Gears of War, even running 2x8800gtx's in sli the videos would end up looking like slideshows to me. Without seeing a dxdiag I won't be able to specifically diagnos anything as much as I'd love to. You can also try overclocking if you're just barely getting under the fps you're hoping for.

Looking forward to seeing a DxDiag if you post one, cheers.

EDIT: This post is obnoxiously long so if you just skip down to the bottom here's what I'm saying: Can't really say how to help you specifically but I would suggest lowering a few settings, checking on your vsync, and posting a DxDiag for us bored forum readers.

Also, everyone just assumes DDR these days. But if you're on SDR that can have an impact as well

All 8600gts models are gddr3 right? I haven't stumbled across gddr2 ones but I maybe be wrong. (Tends to happen alot.)
If they are I wouldn't consider that any kind of problem.

I was actually referring to system RAM

Ah yeah that makes more sense I was searching around newegg for a gddr2 8600gts card.
Haha thanks for that I got really confused there.

Like I said, everyone just assumes without question. But yeah, DxDiag is the way to go *does his DxDiag horse dance*

I think I heard somewhere on this board that the Pentium D isn't a "true" dual-core CPU. So you might want to look into getting that changed out.

The Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_D) has this to say:
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Each CPU comprised two single-core dies (CPUs) - next to each other - in one Multi-Chip Module package. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

So maybe this is the issue. I don't know. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

The hell does that even mean?

you are probly right on the min spec as the 7300 is about on par if not worse than the 6800. also even if you change from one nvidia card to the other you need to uninstall and reinstall the drivers as no two geforce cards have the same config so the driver needs a install to set up the card to work properly.

@bob and drego: it basicaly means the chip is like running 2 seperate CPU's on a single mother board as it passes the data between cores outside the chip were a true dual core passes data between the cores inside the chip meaning it is faste. that is also why the pentium D needs alot higher clock speed than the Core 2's and AMD X2's to get the same preformance.

I actually manage to play AC on my old pentium D 3.2Ghz with 2 GB RAM and an AGP Radeon X1600PRO (512RAM) - all well below min spec. In fact I couldnt even install it, initially. Granted, its at 1024x768 and it does slow down to a couple FPS at times b/c I max all settings except the number of civilians.

But it is SUCH an enjoyable game, I just pretend that slow-mo action is a feature as I slash a guard with a killer counter-move and blood spurts to the sky - nice! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

hate to burst your buble but your actualy above the min for CPU and your graphics card while it is the min requirements is a 512 modle when the min for the game is only 256. so your actualy above the min spec for the game not below it. also I found when my old mother board died I upgraded my CPU it made a huge differance in preformance (even tho the change was only from a AMD 64 4800 to a AMD 64 5200 so it wasnt a huge change) so this game seems to rely alot on both aspects so if both are low it causes a problem.

I thought min spec was a core duo processor and the X1600PRO would only work if PCI...

In order to play this game properly, your PC MUST meet or exceed these minimum requirements:

Supported OS: Windows XP / Vista (only)
Processor: Dual core processor 2.6 GHz Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ or better recommended)
RAM: 1 GB Windows XP / 2 GB Windows Vista
Video Card: 256 MB DirectX 10.0–compliant video card or DirectX 9.0–compliant card with Shader Model 3.0 or higher (see supported list)*
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0 or 10.0 compliant sound card (5.1 sound card recommended)
DirectX Version: DirectX 10.0 libraries (included on disc)
DVD-ROM: DVD-ROM dual-layer drive
Hard Drive Space: 8 GB
Peripherals Supported: Keyboard, mouse, optional controller (Xbox 360 Controller for Windows recommended)

*Supported Video Cards at Time of Release:
ATI RADEON X1600* / 1650*-1950 / HD 2000 / 3000 series
NVIDIA GeForce 6800* / 7 / 8 / 9 series
*PCI Express only supported

you have a 3.2 pentium D and the pro version of the ATI cards are alot more powerfull than the standard versions.
