What is the closest that anyone has had a ship spawn to them? I mean real close? Like on top of them or all but? I'd love to hear about it and how common it is. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Or how about being shelled by a merchantman that you can't even see in the fog? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

Or any other brain banging glitches like these http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif!

I hate when there is havey fog. One time, I was chasing a convoy in VERY heavy fog. I mean, my watch officer was able to locate the ships at only 300 mtrs!!!. I, of course, was able to see them a little bit furhter, but without my watchman, i was unable to fire any torps (I still use auto targeting). So there I was, sorrounded by a few T3 and C2, being incapable of doing anything. One of those damn merchants spoted me and started firing at me. I wasnt able to even see the muzzle flash of the cannon, nothing!!. I decided to abandon the convoy (I have been chasing it for almost 1:30 hours real time).

Well, yesterday I was cruising, a 1x TC on the surface @ 7 knots, mid Atlanic, wind speed 0m/s, the sun was shining, crew was sunning themselves, and everything was beautiful. No targets though.

I took a break from plotting dastardly deeds in unrestricted submarine warfare because its 1942, no neutrals now, and decided to go topside and enjoy the view. I have a fully experienced watch crew who do not miss a thing and good radio guys manning the radar detector.

I'm thinking planes, damm aircraft could ruin this, so I scan the horizon with the binoculars and all of a sudden the game gives a lurch, a tremor in the graphics. Hmm, thats strange.

I lower the binoculars and watched as a Clemson destroyer spawns 500m directly ahead, in full view, first the hull, the details, then men, and then firing guns.

AAALLLARM! Crash Dive, hard starboard and we scramble below as the Clemson heels over, hard to port, smoke belching and guns firing making its attack run.

I raced below, going to the torpedo settings, looking for the warp drive and the beam-me-up-Scotty power button. I figure if they can beam in just like that, I should be able to beam out just like that.

We were barely below when I launched a Falke homing torp then the destroyer noise fills the boat. We brace for either collision, depth charges, torpedo hit on either of us or some weird combination of the above.

All of a sudden, nothing, everything is quiet. Huh? Its all gone, the Clemson dissapears. I order ahead slow and go to periscope depth to check.

Then I realised, OH SH@T, there a homing torpedeo out there, it had circled, looking for a target...AAALLARM! Crash Drive!

I swear this game has a Ghost in the Machine. My epitaph should have read "See, I told you It was out to get me" but we got away. This time.

I play DiD but this is ridiculous.

(Cue Twilight Zone theme music...or Startrek or Its a Long Way To Tipperary)

You weren't sailing anywhere near the Bermuda Triangle were you? You did mention it was 1942 so I figured you were out that way http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif
