If you have to fly on a server that has big icons like that telling you what to shoot and helping you to see your target then you are not too good at all.

Anyone can go on an arcade kiddie server, save tracks then edit the parts together where they are shooting down some noob.

Go onto a server with hard settings with no icons, and post a track of you flying a complete mission, identifying between friend and foe by silhouette and other methods, getting a kill or two, evading someone on your six and maybe shooting them down, hitting a ground target then landing back at base safely, then you are good.

This guy is just another arcade slob, and if you are impressed by what he did there, what does that make you?

Well gee! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif Am I supposed to be impressed? He's using one of the biggest gun platforms in the entire game, on an arcade server. No, I'm not impresed. Nah-ah. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif

Like PFlyer said, let's see how he does on a REAL server. These arcade servers CAN be fun when you're drunk or in altered states (and I'm not talking about Kentucky! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) but other than that... leave it for the noobs man!

Strap on yer jock strap, http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/354.gif grab yer favorite brew and sit in on a good session of FULL REAL and you'll never go back! Suuuuure, you'll suck REAL bad for the first few days... but be patient and you'll eventually be rewarded with some of the most memorable flying EVER!! ThasswotImtalkinabout!

Cheers,

Ah, what the heck. I still thought it was fun to watch.

I reckon I might make a movie like that myself - except mine will be an edited sequence of me being continuously bounced/outmaneuvered and shot down by superior opponents. I could call it "A Typical Day Online". http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Well I liked it

I thought some shots were real impressive, and he can surely fly his bird.

I don't agree with the previous posts saying he sucks because he isnt doing it in full real. Clearly the guy has prooved he knows his plane, he knows how to aim and that he has skill. Recognizing sillhouetes and following a plane for 40 minutes before realizing it's a friendly... who'd like to see a video of THAT?

Having icons on or off doesn't discredit the fact that he has SKILL and can AIM and FLY his plane.

Saying it's not impressive because its one of the biggest gun platforms on the game.... well, you still have to AIM it, and those were some really good shots. Also you have to fly it, and on the patches this video was taken the FW190A9 didnt handly as wonderfully as it does now. The guy has talent, he could probably do the same on any plane he would set his mind to and practice for a bit.

Personally I ~S~ him. Nowhere have I seen him bragging around this video, and he clearly would have a reason to do so if he wished.

It's CaptFlushGarden on what looks like 334th Dedicated. He's a decent guy as well as being a decent flyer too. How nice of you to **** the kills off like you're all super aces that could do better or it's easy!! lol I see a lot of this type of bragging on these forums, all self-proclaimed amazing pilots in Corsairs and Mustangs yet when I go online I rarely see these kinds of skills for myself. From watching the video he's using full cockpit in a 190 and deflection shooting which is never easy. Nothing wrong with icons or padlock, in RL you can see miles better than on any 19" CRT at 10x7 res and at a guaranteed frame rate with 'perfect track IR' ie your own head, eyes and neck!! They were good kills, using changes in flaps, prop pitch and power, they might be his best ever, but they were still skillful. Furthermore, they show off IL2 to new punters.

When you hit the "Difficulty" button in this sim, you are presented with two pages of switches with which you can turn various features of the sim on and off to suit your "tastes".

Now, at the bottom of the difficulty settings screen, there are three buttons which the founder, designers and developers of this sim have marked "easy", "normal" and "hard".

It is certainly harder to get results on a server with "hard" settings than it is on one with 'normal" or "easy" settings, each level upward takes the skill of the previous level, and adds it's own skills one has to have to be successful flying on it.

Sure there is skill involved in flying "easy" or "normal" settings, just as there is skill involved with doing a fine job of finding your mouth with a spoon at breakfast time.

But because "hard" settings involve MORE different skills, than lower levels, those who can get results in online servers set to "hard" settings, are the most wily and skilled of all IL2 pilots, it is common sense.

Watching a track of someone kicking As s while flying under hard settings, seeing them use amazing situational awareness, gunnery, I.D skills, and aerobatics is something that cannot be bettered. These guys are the at the top of the ladder and saying they are no better than those who need easier settings to accomplish the same is ridiculous.

Hey, everyone has to start somewhere, and everyone is allowed to have fun where they want to.
Just don't say you are just as good a driver as A.J. Foyt, when all you have done so far is drive to work and back.

Oh, and in case you didn't already know, AFJ stands for Arcade Flying Jocks.

I really hope these full real snobs take it to the full real level and put a bullet in their head next time they get shot down. Come one, what's full real if you have refly available?

It's called full switch or full difficulty but it is not full real. It is just as arcade but more boring than servers with lesser difficulty.

Given the comments in this thread, I think it would be rather nice if somebody could post a video-making tutorial.

Personally I thought that the video was ok, but not the most impressive I've seen (anyone remember the 190A video with a ramstein soundtrack showing scary MK108 kills back in the days before the 151/20s were fixed?).

In my experience, if you're flying on a server with icons it tends to be harder to get a clean bounce.

Turn on pretty colours for those icons, get rid of the cockpit and turn on padlocks and it's almost impossible to bounce anybody who isn't asleep.

This changes things so much that IMO it's a totally different game. It's not better or worse than flying full switch, but the skills are very different.

I like the cockpit on, but i also like padlocks, externals, etc because it is a video game for me. I am limited by viewing this world on a small 19in monitor and I need certain aids to help me. The problem with this sim is that the community has separated itself into two groups. "Full Real" and "Arcade" There is no in between for those of us that want some limitations without killing gameplay.

So far there is only one server, UKDED2, which runs cockpit on with externals and icons. This is great except I have to sit in this server for 3 hours waiting for a late war map to come up so I can fly the planes I want to fly.

I would like to see more of the open pit servers switch to just turning the pit on and seeing how that changes things.

I thought this guy's video was pretty good and I'm sure it took him quite a few sortes to get all the footage he wanted. Some of you have this "I'm better than you because I play with all my visual aids off" and you are no better than anyone else. You get smoked online as much as you get to do the smoking. It's timing and luck no matter what settings you use.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

People aren't hostile so fast IRL, like they are on the interweb. Something's deteriorated...
Basically that speaks for itself.

As for the video it shows good skills.

About "Realistic" vs. "Normal" or some other difficulty, it clearly is harder on "Realistic" like difficulties (pit on, no externals etc.).
But it is a matter of preferance - should be viewed that way.

Bottom line is - fun time for player. That matters.
"Realistic" "Normal" difficulty etc. - does not matters since it doesn't determines amount of fun.

If the game isn't funny for you, you are not having a good time with it = game has no purpose. Failing at its main task.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
