The battlefield action looks incredible from the videos I've seen. The big drawback is the lack of a Mission Builder, though there are rumors of a future release of said, it's not been confirmed. My son (and I) enjoy setting up battlefield scenarios with IL-2 46', so a Full Mission Builder in "Theatre of War" would be an incredible advance for us. It appears the user does have a lot of influence over the predefined battle scenarios and the addition of a mission builder would make it the perfect real time tactical WWII game.

That game will never be released. I haven't seen that site move, save in the direction of complaints, for almost half-a-year now.

Huh? It HAVE BEEN RELEASED about 6 monthes ago. Though in Russian only. I already went through all of it's campaigns, some of them more then once.

They plan a big update/patch release soon, after which the game will be released on the worldwide market.

Wel.............
...............
...............
Er.............
Well...........
.......Well, it's hard to say. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

It's not for a casual player...
It's not even for a casual WWII fan/wargame player...
And, it could have been MUCH better...
But, it's still fun. At least for me. Yet, even despite I liked it in the end, I didn't think, I will, when I only started it. He-he. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Some say, the new patch will have a heavy impact on the gameplay, so my experience with this game may be completley different to what you will get in the end. And, I can't say, if it will be better or worse.
Yet, to turn this game into a real killer, it would be needed much, much more, then this patch.

So, it's definitely NOT a masterpiece. Moreover, it's very far from being so. But still is a fun-generating kind-of-wargame in the WWII setting. Which includes German, Russian, Polish, French and US+British campaigns and a few more or less interesting single missions...

1C Maddox and the creators of Combat Mission series worked together on Theatre of War since its release in Russia. Supposedly a lot of tweaks and additional options have been made. I'll be keeping a very close watch on this one.

I affraid, you are a bit missguided. I seriously doubt, that any of CM developers wrked on the ToW. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Looks very good to me, especially with those Battleground additions. I'll buy it as soon as it's available. COMBAT MISSION was superb but it never appealed to me.

they didn't work on the Russian release, but they're the ones who are currently working on the game for a worldwide release.

They don't. The only "crossreference" between CM and ToW are the historical advisors, who were helping/working in both projects.

No. There is no Russian demo.
