Im sure this has been discussed many a time but i cant seem to find a thread that has all my answers. Hope you dont mind me asking something you will of heard loads.

Im running SH3 with the GWX mod and loving it, thanks for this to whoever had any part in making it.

I was never that good at evading destroyers or any other type of sub hunter for that matter before the mod but i dont want it to put me off playing but is there any tactics that will help me get away. I try and get in the destroyers blind spot but then they seem to ping me and find me again. how do i stop them from pinging me? lol

Also, what are the possible tactics to evade if 2 boats are after you?

Thanks in advance guys http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hi Studders86,

it depends on the period of war you are in.

Early in war it is easy to evade by running silent and showing a small ASDIC aspect. Show your six and move out slowly. Go deep, the ASDIC is still "limited".

In the mid of war it's harder, but use the tactics from above and move slower than 100 rpm. Most say go deep, I prefer to stay at periscope depth (PD).

'43 and later the only working tactics is to stay undetected. Otherwise your chances are low to get rid of one DD and it is quite impossible to evade two or more of them.

I prefer to stay at periscope depth, because I can judge the DD actions through my periscope. If it shows its stern section it can't hear me and I speed up until it turns again. And I can bite back if necessary.

The DDs try to avoid being damaged by their own depth charges. They set them quite deep, even if they know you are at periscope depth. Some get you at PD but most explode deeper.

Make good use the "DC Alley" - the corridor between the ships hull and the sideways dropped DCs. This is only possible while at PD. Flank speed and turning outward of the attacking DDs course until it is nearly above you, then turning back to be parallel to the ships hull when the stern racks drop their load.
This manouvre takes some training and some timing. Lower the periscope in good time prior to be damaged.
Some DDs - i.e. the Black Swans - will be equipped with K-guns pointing at 135 and 225 to hit this area too.

Hedgehogs are deadly. If you survive the first attack use the time to make your peace with god.

The overall best tactics is simply to stay undetected.

with 2 or more DD's on you, always control the sub from the hydrophone.. it's easier to track them, and work out who attacking and whose pinging.
