Hi Russ, most people have now moved on to the latest version of IL2 which is 1946..

It includes every game and addon needed to play the most updated version and comes on 1 DVD.

Check some of the other threads to find out more about it..

just a thought, if i can run forgotten battles AEP on my comp at a reasonable fps, will i need to upgrade my comp to play 46? is there a large difference in requirements or are they mostly the same? im not really bothered in having outstanding graphics, just as long as its playable and i cant really afford to upgrade.

thanks

Only a slight difference. The cloud image quality changed and the physics calculation requirements are higher as the new flight models are more realistic. But practically speaking you can tweak any minor loss of FPS down with the right sort of settings...so you're likely to have a similar experience from AEP to IL-2 1946. The game engine itself changed only very small amounts...

Since any performance hit caused by the improved FMs is mostly noticeable when flying against AI, you shouldn't see much change when playing online against humans.

Also, some of the new graphics features like the realistic clouds and even the 3D gunners on the AA guns have to be activated in the conf.ini. Fresh out of the box these frames-eaters won't negatively affect your 1946 install and you can add them in as you see fit.

Its essentially the same engine/graphiocs, but with improvements at the higher settings if you want them

What is your system? cpu/RAM/Gfx card ? We can tell you if you should be OK. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

To be fair, you can get an incredibly cheap graphics card upgrade these days which will enable you to play IL2 1946 on the highest settings. A Gfx card upgrade as almost as easy as plugging a game into a Super Nintendo Game system or Sega Genesis.
