View Full Version : Can you hide in clouds?

I've been messing around with the QMB lately and setting up situations where some weather exists that might make things interesting. But my question is:

Can you successfully hide in the clouds to evade the AI fighters? From my experience, it doesn't seem so. They are relentless in their pursuit of me, regardless of the weather, and it seems like they are all equipped with the latest TCAS radar.

no, unfortunately you can't.
It would be a great addition to the sim, seeing as nothing chaps my caboose more than getting hit with 20mm cannon shells flying through a cloud bank, but i expect it's going to be in BOB (Oleg's next sim)

Actually....since PF 3.0"something".......I've been able to lose them in the clouds often.......Gunners a different issue though.

Yeah I noticed that too.... not always but often enough to try it as a tactic. I notice a lot of it depends on how close they are to you. If they are far away often it doesnt work... as it shouldnt.. but if they are a bit closer and you break at an angle that is divergent enough from your original flight path you can often loose them. But again.. like Billfish said... the gunners have radar.

OT: The QMB is fun and all but if you give the Full Mission Builder a go, you'll never look back.

Just a thought in passing.

Can you suggest a place to get started to learn the FMB? A tutorial of some sort perhaps. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

AI does see through clouds, but like Bearcat99 and Billfish says, there`s been some cases where I`ve mysteriosuly lost AI that was definitely tracking and chasing me.

I suspect that Oleg`s been experimenting with this, but hasn`t quite got it right, so he`s aborted the idea and, as is his style, not bothered to say anything about it in the Readme.

If you really want to see blind AI in clouds, try Rowans BOBII wov. I must say it`s a new level of dogfighting when you finding youself playing `hide and seek` with a 109!

Yes, try Nutcase's site, Dubbo. He has some very good introductory tutorials.

Thanks Gents,

Actually, I have made a number of missions and two mini campaigns in the FMB (although I've since forgotten how to make them http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif)but just for quick thrills, I like to throw something together on the fly in QMB.

You can't deny the quick gratification that the QMB can provide.

This tactic saved my bacon in numerous online engagements.

To the original question, it is impossible with AI.

Works **** Good on Warclouds though http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Every night after work I fly into the clouds and hide. Too bad it doesn't work in the game!

Those clouds look utterly fantastic now after upgrading from an ATI 9200 to an X700.

At the risk of straying from the topic, I seem to have a problem with the track player. When I play in the QMB, the tracks are recorded and played back fine, but not after I've played in the FMB (events take place which uh....didn't take place). Does anybody else have this problem?

Okay, here's a simliar question about the sun. I'm guessing that the AI isn't deterred by flying straight into the sun (as real human pilots would). This doesn't seem to be a viable tactic in PF although it does work for the AI. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

Is that right?

I'll try this, I just assumed you'd get pegged wherever you are, I've been downed many times in the clouds by 20mm fire. I never paid attention to how close they were though.

Yeah... theres nothing more unrealistic than turning on the overcast layer and having AI shoot right through it at the bombers...

Not vs AI but works a charm on humans

nothing better than draging a bandit into the clouds, using the horizon indicator to give him the shake & bake , then stir fry his **** when its said & done

Clouds Ya !
