Hi all,

I've never played IL2 online, but have spent quite a few hours offline playing through the various campaigns.

I attemped to play online last night, but couldn't seem to join any of the "dogfight" servers, and eventually gave up.

I'd love to try to play online, whether it be co-op or vs., so I'm looking for anyone who'd can help direct me as how to do it and what sort of etiquette is normal for the game.

Thanks in advance!

Need more details...

Where did you go to play online?
If you tried to join a game but couldnt what errors did you get? or what was the behavior of the software?

Thanks for the response Ghost!

I attempt to connect via the multiplay tab in IL2: PF+AB+AEP main menu. That takes me to ubi.com which in turn lauches a seperate program allowing me to browse types of games and servers.

I can see the IL:FB and FB ACE servers, but cannot join any, apparently because I have the PF version of the game installed over my FB and FB ACE versions.

I can also see the PF servers, but when I attempt to join any, it states I don't have "PF Dogfight" installed. Is this another patch or add-on I need to download?

Thanks again!

And what version of the game do you have? you can check that in the bottom LH corner of the opening screen. E.g. Ver. 3.03m here (=FBAEP+PF merged with latest patch) You cannot get into any game that runs a different version from yours.

let me reccommend hyperlobby. lots of servers and good people there.

Sorry about forgetting to place the version #. I'm currently running v3.02bm. Sounds like I'm running an older patch, and just need to upgrade? Will the upgrade allow me to join "dogfight" servers?

Steve, I'll take a look at that lobby you recommended!

Most that have the merged (FB/AEP/PF) install are using 3.03m, updating should get you sorted.

I updated to 3.03m, but I'm still getting the "dogfight" or "coop" not installed. Is this a seperate file?

Also, I'm seeing only a few servers for the games (4 for PF Dogfight), is this normal or do I have my ubi.com settings incorrect?

I've attached an image of what I'm seeing.

That's an Ubi.com bug. IIRC there's a fix listed somewhere in the "User fixes that may help others" thread near the top of the forum. You wont get that problem at Hyperlobby as suggested above by Steve http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

If you have the merged ACE+PF version, then you need to join a server in the FB ACE room at UBI.com. The PF room is for PF standalone only. The FB ACE room has both ACE 2.04 and ACE+PF 3.03m servers, so if you can't join one, try another. The v3.03m version servers will be listed as "undetected" in the description.

Most people use the merged verision, so that's why only a few servers in the PF room.

As the others say, try using the Hyperlobby client also. Besides having more servers/players available, it's often easier just to use that rather than troubleshoot problems with UBI.com, lol.

Thanks everyone! I took a look at hyperlobby and I'll download it tonight. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Any tips for a new player? I don't want to jump on servers and upset any veterans by doing things that are "unacceptable".

Generally speaking any rules outside of common courtesy are specified in the briefing. If in doubt, ask in chat.

That Ubi error was a bug and the fix involved a registry edit.

Editing the registry is risky business.Proceed at you own risk.

Once in the registry go to mycomputer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubi Soft\Game Service Games. Then rename the folder IL2FB_COOP to IL2FB_COOPERATIVE and folder IL2FB_DFIGHT to IL2FB_DOGFIGHT.Save and exit.

Editing the registry can be a risky proceedure and I take no responsibilty for any incurred problems.

I suggest that you look at the fixes thread(mentioned in a previous post) to verify my entries and proceed at your own risk.

This fix is not necessary to play at Hyperlobby.Only at Ubi.com.

You can also use All Seeing Eye (ASE). You can get it here: http://www.udpsoft.com/eye2/

It says there is a "trial" period, but you can simply choose to "try it out for another 7 days for free" indefinitely. I prefer ASE at times as it displays IP's (which is how I usually join) and other info. HL is by far the most popular, but I just wanted to let you know there was an alternative. Both are good.

I tried both Hyperlobby (it only found one game, with 2 players, who were playing at a different version that I own), and the All Seeing Eye (which only found 4 servers, and I couldn't connect to any).

I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong, but it's such a shame this game has such a poor user interface for online gaming. I'm used to playing FPS games such as the BF series and Unreal series...why don't they mimic such a straight-forward and powerful multiplayer search engine as listed on those games?

Anyway...any clues what I'm doing incorrectly? Downloading all of this software and trying to figure it out is really starting to dissuade me.

M8, it sounds like you got into the wrong room in HyperLobby! Did you go into Forgotten Battles or IL2-Sturmovik? I just looked (1120hrs GMT) and there are 198 people in there, with about 36 dogfighting servers running. In fact, there's more problem with overcrowding, esp. around 2000-2200hrs, when this lobby reaches it 980 player limit.

Edit: that's the Forgotten Battles Room - where the majority of people are running FBAEP+PF v3.03m.

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I went into IL-2. Whoops!

I see a listing of a ton of servers now, going to try to jump into a few!

Hi, everybody. I have flown a lot of IL2 but now when Im trying to enter multiplayer I run into the following problem; Connection attempt to remote host rejected. Reason: Server uses different version of the game (4.02m)

Why is that when I have installed IL2 FB, IL2 AEP and PF (merged) and downloaded the 4.02m patch??
