I can't tell whether more and more people are going to private LANS or have just gotten bored, but less than 3 weeks ago, you could find 10 to 15 sessions going during peak hours at least a handful off-shift. I can hardly find anyone anymore...I try to host as much as possible allowing the ones hanging in wings to strap on...but its hard getting more than 4 or 5 to fill a mission now. Has bad sportsmanship by some spoiled it for the rest and have put them off? Are people just bored with the scenarios? At the very least, its wonderful practice for those who are new. The different scenarios have given me a chance to not only utilize my skills on different facets on the boat, but to meet really knowledgeable, cool people and learn tricks of the trade right on spot-during the action (ojt), as opposed to in forums...
Please don't tell me that we are nothing more than fair-weather skippers with the attention span of a gnat....And to those who have now shifted to games with passwords..."Psst"...The coast is clear...the DD's have left...I think the bad sports have gotten the hint and have bugged out....There are still some really good skippers out there on the ocean waiting to sink ships with you...

True. Very true. Ubisoft games multiplayer often die off over time due to little to no technical support nor bug fixing. I'd be happy to play with you if you ever need an extra u-boat, drop me a PM.

Aye, me too, but only if its 1.2 for now. When 1.4 hits, I'll be really hitting up the MP scene.

I'm game for some MP, though I'm running 1.3. If you need another, flip me a PM.

Cheers.

....Greets fellow Skippers. I am not sure who is here from IL2/PF but we had a good thing going over on HyperLobby...and it still is good.

...Set a time, set a place...and set what you are going to do and post it on the SH3 Forums. I used to host some killer air races back in the day of the original IL2. Some of my Compadres have taken the flag and to this day it is still "Friday Night Races".
...We ought to be able to set something up in a similar way. Say, every night at 20:00 Central there will be a server...or a number of servers...up on UBI. That way fellow U-Boat Captains will know that there will be servers up on UBI that they can get some time on....

...Just my two cents.

Sounds good. I'd be glad to help somebody organize this, however cannot host myself. Very good idea though to get a good game(s) going with themes even perhaps. Possibilities are endless.

I'm hosting games now for anybody that would be interested in playing a good multiplayer game. The name of my games is "Lets Get'em". The games that I host are not for the faint at heart. I play hard with lots of escort veteran DD's. But I also take requests as well.

Unfortunately we are not all in the same time zone so not all will be able to be on when I'm on. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif I live in the the USA on the west coast. A link is below to a web site that shows my current time in relation to your time. My time zone is the Seattle time zone. I like to start a game at about 5:30 or 6:00 PM my time Mon. through Fri. and Sat. and Sun. from about 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
If anybody is interested and would like to set up a time that is mutually good for all parties this would be great. And of course, I'm not always on or I'm in the middle of a hosted game so there is no guarantee that you will see me. And in life there are those unexpected things that can come up, so if we can setup a schedule that would actually be better.
Hope to see you in a good torp slingin multiplayer game!

Sounds good, perhaps couple nights a week at an allotted time for some good gaming. Any suggestions from any other parties would be well appreciated.

I've never considered SHIII to be much of a multi player type of game. What makes MP cool ? It must be kind of like wolf packs I suppose. How is the issue of time comp. handled ?

Yes, MP adds the wolf-pack element to the game. A bit different gameplay from the daily grind. Awfully fun if you get a good group of 5 or so going and employ tactics (hooah). Time comp.?

Thank you terrificool....That was one other thing I was going to mention. I am running 1.3. I bet when 1.4 hits, we will have another rush back to the MP world, wanting to test out the new patch.
I can't wait for all of us to get back together again.

I'd love to, but I need for someone to explain why when I try to create an account, I continue to get an:

UNKNOWN - Unknown Error.

I've tried to establish a UBI account on several occasions, but I've given up trying. Do you need to be running v1.3?

(I do have a legal game and CD Key!)

Hey i would love to play online, the only problem is that i only just got my first kill today, well i say first kill it was a trawler, and it took a snap shot of 3 torps to blow it out of the water at a range of 500, never the less i was very proud as i had to hunt him at about a range of 6100 for about a week so i could get round him. anyway i would not mind participating in a wolfe pack but i am not sure if i could handle it on hard http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Illustrious, U-49...Thanks for the invites. I look forward to sinkin ships with you.
Tx-Cuda, and BobV_07...We've sailed together a couple of times already, it's been fun.
Yeah I try to get on evenings between 7pm and 10pm Mountain time....I've run into a couple of you guys already and its been great. Look forward to more...We gotta keep it up.
Another good guy is Mjollnir. His server is called "STINKFISH" he's on most evenings as well, just make sure your boat is within the time period. He's a stickler for that.
Ajoleary - This might sound crazy but make sure you set up your ubi account with username and password...make sure your DSL/Cable modem is fired up....go to multiplayer...make sure you have the right version with the game that's being hosted (it will display the game version in the ready area. If you have the 1.2 patch then you can only play with other 1.2ers and so on....Make sure it is "password free" and a "ping" has been established.
Neo- Even though you are new to the game...You'll get a world of experience and great tips from the old schoolers on MP.

I've fixed my problem I think. I already had a UBI account from another game that I'd forgotten about! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Now I'm ready for some online action. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

..Good to see the input on MP gaming here with SH3. I might be able to host a few nights a week as well. I have a fast cable connection and a killer "homebuilt" system so I know that will not be a problem.
..I do check the Ubi Servers at least once every evening and one thing that I see ought to be addressed. I see people putting servers up with pretty good pings...AND A PASSWORD! I'll bet they are wondering "Why am I hosting this server and no one wants to sail on my new killer map?" It just makes me shake my head sometimes!

I might suggest something else if we are able to get this MP thing off the ground and that is Voice COMMS. We in the TX-Squadron have tried 'em all and settled on TeamSpeak. It uses very little of your system resources and is trouble free. We use it whenever we get online HyperLobby to fly IL2/Pacific Fighters and it really makes quite a difference when you are trying to coordinate an attack with your squad/wingman.
...Just a few ideas I have thrown out for you skippers. I just re-loaded Pacific Fighters as the long awaited "two weeks away" ver 4.01 patch has finally arrived so I will be shuttling between HyperLobby and SH3's Ubi servers. If I see you guys online I'll be sure to join your servers....as well as host a few myself. I have some good ideas that I have tried while using the map editor but still need to figure out how to make the MP game come out as an MP!! I can make maps all day long that we host on our OC3 server on HyperLobby but this editor is taking a bit longer to figure out.

See Ya'll on the Sea!

This is because of a everyone being all over the place with their versions. Some are 1.0 some are 1.2 and then some more are 1.3. When 1.4 comes out hopefully it will be the definative version and we can all switch to it and be one big happy family. I would be more than willing to use the current 1.3 but I and I'm sure a large number of other players feel the gimped Sonar Man and UBER Destroyers are just not making the game much fun right now.

Two MAJOR problems are killing MP in this game:

1) You cant host a server behind a NAT router... why? I have PLENTY of games where this is not an issue. I would LOVE to host a 24/7 server but cant due to me being behind a NAT router. Being as this game requires some serious bandwidth...those hosting would be on braodband. I would say at LEAST 60% of those with broadband are behind a router. So why code a game that wont work behind a NAT router? Example: I hosted a 24/7 server for my FREELANCER clan for a year.

Just to give you an idea of what Freelancer was like, Freelancer was a game made by MS, where you were a space rouge/merchant/pilot. You started with a crappy little ship and had to take dynamic missions (for money) or become a pirate stealing other peoples cargo. with this money you can upgrade your ship and/or weaps and equipment. The game was a very dynamic game, with AI as well as live players in MP. THere were over 20 different star systems you could travel to with 100's of different planets to visit.

Another game would be Ghost recon...no problems having two PCs running a game and a host/server. Americas army (basically UT 2004 mod) also has no problems.

I had one PC as my server and one that I played from. NO problems with NAT. Basically this is crappy NET coding.

2) The way SHIII made the MP gaming. Basically you and your wofpack are plopped into the action, and then game over.

Again using Freelancer as an example. You started with the smallest spacecraft and you and your clan could all work together to build your ship up (or upgrade to a better one). Basically MP was just like SP...you could go to any planet, any system. Take dynamic missions as a team..etc etc.

Basically SHIII missed the boat with the limited MP they have. MP should have been no different than SP where you could all start at a dock/base of your choice. Meet somewhere in the Atlantic and go hunting, then return back to base.

Hey iv'e put up a suggestion that might bolster the activity or at least organisation of multiplayer games... here is the link to the thread (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/857101043/m/3551032133)
