Hi,
I just installed IL2 (original), I can't seem to take off. Every time I take off the plane pulls to the left. Even on training mode the plane pulls to the left and crashes. Please help. Thanks.

p.s. I have patched it to v.1.2

Correct the veering to the left with some right rudder. Be gentle though.

emee2,
Just a quick question. Are you using a joystick or trying to fly with the keyboard?. It makes a bit of a difference in the answer to your question.

Thanks for the reply guys. I'm using a ch combat stick. Like I said even in the training mode, where the computer flies the plane,
the planes crashes to the ground on take off.

your in training and il-2 v1.2 right? ....stop!!! that dont work ...thats whats wrong... just the way it is .it quite working when the patches /upgrades were install ed ..... so get out of the training mode .. go either start a carrer or fly the quick mission builder(qmb) ..the qmb will start you in the air though ..if you start a carreer you will start on ground..GOOD LUCK.

Ch Combatstick doesn't have a twist rudder, so I assume you're using pedals, right? You will need some kind of rudder control, and the keyboard controls aren't adequate.

As noted in earlier posts, the training missions no longer work in Il-2, post patch(es). If you don't feel ready for a career, you can also do a few single missions. They all start with takeoff, and you can do Il-2s, MiG-3, YaK-1b and YaK-9 missions on the Russian side, and the Ju-87 Stuka plus both the 109 and 190 fighters on the German side.

That should give you a good cross-section of takeoff training.

Cheers

If you don't have pedals, and I don't, map the rudder to the throttle on the joystick. I use keyboard for throttle and honestly, it may be more realistic as the unlabeled joystick throttles combined with the difficulty of seeing the engine guages (when they work) make judging throttle setting difficult.

Oh, if you do, map the 10% increment throttle settings to the NUMBER KEYPAD cos then you can punch them in the dark by feel instead of having to look up and down the keyboard to pick the correct number off the "normal" number keys along the top of the keyboard.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif It helps to have one of the capacitive switch 20kg mass IBM keyboards, then you can punch it as hard as you can and only break your hand, and eliminate any intruders in your home with the keyboard too. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Take off is relativly easy wait 'till you get to the landing that is not "relativly hard" it's HARD 'till you learn it trough practice. So practice because that is the only way to go in this game.

just gun the trottle you take off in a couple feet you dont even need takeoff flaps. adjust rudder. Just watch out for the tb3 and p40 if they are off runway and you dont have back elevator pressure the planes will nose over for some dumb reason.
