What about reading the other threads (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/857101043/m/3311098323) first? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Can you tell me a little about this class of Submarine? I am not familiar with it.

These were World War One U-Boats.

It sounds like a bad idea to me since they can't be heavily armored and unable to take much damage. Or was there some way to make a heavily armored submersible? I am doubtful.

It will be Type XI U-cruisers as 4 of them were laiding keel to be build before WWII start but cancel. However rumor (most likely false) said found sunken XI U-112 in mud near Maryland as sonar show clear picture outline (maybe doctored it to fool sponors to give money. Sorry, No real picture but showing drawing in my book I have it with me. Note from uboat.net:
"Huge U-boats, designed in 1937-1938, with 4 127mm deck guns in two gun-towers (one fore and aft of the conning tower). 6 torpedo tubes (4 in the bow and two at the stern, all below the CWL). One Ar 231 small aircraft in a watertight 2.6m in diameter container shaft. These boats were to have a crew of about 110 men almost double that of any constructed German U-boat. 4 contracts (U-112 thru U-115) were awarded to the AG Weser yard in Bremen on Jan 17, 1939 but wisely cancelled at the outbreak of war in September that year and the recently laid-down hulls were broken up."

Bit to big for me since i dont even like the size of the type IX boats. Like i said in my other thread gimme a UA boat. Twin 150mm deck guns and more like a true uboat with more firepower than some odd topheavy deadtrap destroyer hunter. I belive the dive time for those pregnant cows you were referring to was measured in minutes not seconds. Makes a nice fat slow target

But it cant be that all had been cancelled.

I have some books here that are saying that there were 11 build till 1942.

One of them is mentioned there in special :

U-Cruiser U-179 under command of Fregattenkapit¤n Ernst Sobe was sunk on October , 8th 1942 by Fregate "Active"

They didnt get cancelled. Several countries built some but france was the only country not to scrap theirs.
