Hi all, this has probably been discussed but I was trying out the Zeke against some Wildcats tonight. It seemed to me I was being consistently outturned by the F4Fs (AI). Anyone else noticed this?

Relative turn is very dependant on relative speed. The zero's best turn was at fairly low speed. If you're maintaining high speed, don't be surprised if the wildcats outturn you for short periods.

Undermoddeled, my *BLEEP*. I have no trouble out-turning the AI F4Fs. The only way the F4Fs can out-turn you is by going 500 kph and pulling hard to get a shot.

Works for me too. I had my finest moment yet online on the weekend (ZvsW) aginst two F4F's at sea level, far to the east of Midway. The most rewarding kills I have ever made and I made it back to my carrier on the last wisps of fuel in my tanks. Phew!

Salute to you both, whoever you were http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I've flown Zero's since we had them in 1.04 or AEP (whenever it was).......Yes, to me in 4.02 the A6M2 series seems to not turn near as well as it did in 4.01 or prior. Also the sensation of it being a "light and highly manueverable" aircraft is gone.

Just how it feels to me.

The Zero was not a high altitude fighter and performed best at low altitudes right down to sea level. Someone over on another forum has been testing the roll rates of different aircraft under the 4.02 patch. He has found, across the board, that 4.02 roll rates are too fast at slow speeds and too slow at high speeds when compared to NACA studies of the real aircraft.

just loaded up il2compair

zero can outturn a f4f (on turn time anyways) till 360kph, or 223mph (roughly) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

the f4f is also faster at most alts, which it wasnt irl... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

The F4F should be 15 to 35 mph slower than any model of A6M.

The F4F's strengths agianst the Zero should be limited to turns above 250mph, dive speed, the robustness of the airframe.

In any 1 vs. 1 fight with an A6M the F4F should consider itself outnumbered.

Be sure.

They're very good at deflection shot, better than any version, almost level of online veterans. For that reason, many people think they come inside their turn circle, actually they can't do that. They just pass your turn circle, head UP and strafe their fire. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
In fact even ace AI is poor at pure turn.
So watch his aim during evasive turn. If you show him clean turn circle, you're dead meat. Think AI aces like online human aces, in deflection shooting.

That's a loong story from 3.x version.
Ace ai do miss if you jink properly before headon attack.(recommend full rudder) Rookie should be poor at it IMHO. 3.04 ace was king of headon.
