Apologies if this has been posted before. YouTube has an interesting film of a captured A4 being tested by the Soviets. It's in Russian and thorough.

That was a golden find, thanks for sharing.

Someone there translated it as saying

"the video tells about fw190A disadvantages in combat: "the plane shows no surprising qualities. Its worse in manoeuvrability than it's predecessor me109E and any soviet interceptor. It's also slower. It's main advantages are firepower(4cannons, me109e had only one) and ability to fly in high altitude. That makes it effective attacking only from top and only the bombers, but even than it is vulnerable to machine gunners because pilot cabin is not armoured"

No suprising qualities...except that massive firepower!

When Russians were throwing everything they could at Germans (late 42), the last thing they wanted to do is to discourage their pilots in advance telling them how superior Fw190 is to all of their fielded fighters in that time.

It is very interesting nevertheless, that La-9/11 had a lot in common with this poor 190.

There are at least two more in that "series" of Russian films. The subjects of the other two are Me-262 and He-162. The Me-262 film features a 262 postwar in Soviet colours (and no guns) and the He-162 film features aeroplane animation only. No actual He-162 is featuresd at all. Pity!

I realize this is in retrospect but considering the level of radio communication the Russians had wouldn't it be kind of risky to fly that bird with the original German markings on it? Just in case some figher jock not knowing what's going on comes along and tries to shoot him down. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

It's an interesting film. It's a nice illustration of how beaten-up some planes could get.

Slower than a 109E and lacking pilot armor?

They need to take it back to the store because they got a lemon :P
