I recently recieved a free copy of "Flying Fotress the Mighty 8th" and, since it was free, i thought I might try it. I know it won't beat Forgotten Battles, but I'd be interested to hear the opinions of the Il-2 community regarding this game, especially as it compares to Il2, the best simulation ever, IMO.

Might be some fun, at least until the flyable B-17 appears in AEP someday.

Any thoughts are apprciated.

Lots of micromanagement (which is cool if you like that sort of thing) and the missions can be pretty hair-raising. It's already dated a bit, but is a nice diversion if you really like the ground-pounding heavies. The internals look quite good too (which is definitely possible if you're only doing one plane!)

You're right...FB it's not, but if it does nothing more than cause you to want to learn more about aspects other than the "fighters" then go ahead and install it and give it a whirl. The good part is it was free and you can always delete it if you don't like it.

Like Bearcat, I'm reading the book and it's a great resource for FB/AEP mission-building. But the reviews I read on the game weren't very complimentary. Maybe you can give us a report. After you've played it a while, give us a short review.

Make sure you get the patches from bombs-away.net/ - without them, it's impossible to damage the engines through missuse or poor management.

I loved it though, thought it was very atmospheric and a pretty good simulation of flying and fighting in a WWII bomber.

I have The Mighty Eighth and although I have not played it for quite some time, I enjoyed it thoroughly when I used to play it. Great game overall.

My only beef with it is that you can't compress time, but instead you can only skip 10 minutes at a time.. so on the way to your target when there are no fighters or flak to give you something to do, you have to just press the time skip key over.. and over.. and over..
