Hi. So glad the forums are back (sad to admit, but it's true).
Anyway, I just noticed the other day that when I fly online I never see anyone with custom skins except for me. Do most people actually fly in default skins? I find it hard to believe since finding sexy skins is half the fun. It is also the main reason I tend to fly LW. Shallow, I know. I have a mirror on the top of my PC,too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif.
FYI I pop in to 334th Dedicated, greatergreen, spits v 109, RCAF usually and I have "Skin download" checked in the FB online set-up.

Most servers do not have a very powerful host machine with 4 gigs of ram top of the line machine etc and t1 connection, t3 or oc3 connection.

The only server I know of that does is virtualpilots which has skin dls on which does not effect gameplay much at all, but still does slightly.

Most of the other servers that tried it on slower machines and connections really warps the server midrange host machine and cable 10m down 10m up hosts.

I really hope they rework the way skin dls send, they should have never been added to dl in game while people are fighting flying etc, They should have had skins download while the map is loading before everyone is in game.

then change a skin and have to wait for the next map to reload to see it.

A better solution is release a skins patchs of the top generic skins no markings skins that is put inside the the game engine attached to regimental markings as patchs to make the wait between game update patchs seem shorter.

Theres so many terrific skins out there that put the skins in game to complete shame, and with skins we need to do it in patchs to add them in game for everyone to see which is the whole point of skinning.

Battle of britians engine will be the same way with skins being 2megs instead of 1.

BOB with 60 people sending 120 megs of skins is so unfeasable while playing the only way to do it is skin patchs which makes the community feel like they are getting something and everyone able to see and use them online which is the whole point of skin creators.

when our server is open to the public we have skindownloads on. It's an aussie based server so mainly caters for the asia pacific region and having 30+ guys on we notice little difference if any . Our server can be found on hyperlobby as WTE_DED

Leadspitter, that sounds like a great idea. Whether it would happen or not is another matter. It just seems a shame to fly in this great sim with the clunky, gaudy generic skins. The skin download at mission start ios a good idea too and would be easier to implement (he says knowing nothing about this kind of thing).

WTE_Dusta I'm in Japan so I'll check you guys out. Hope you had a good Anzac weekend. I don't mind that John Howard went to a BBQ rather than attend NZ's commemorations (I'm from NZ).

World at War! has 4 gigs o memory. Most of the pilots in there use custom skins & we have noticed no problems whatsoever. Sometimes 30+ pilots on. Very fast & smooth server.

Downloads dont effect the game but small and dirty PCs do even if server and i love the way the flyers paint there skins and the pilot faces and uniforms are wild and did you noticed that for a hundreds of years the team speack that is part of game is off and we are told it dont work same thing on all the old sims too mabybe we need uptodate tests not rumors of rumors http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif
