'Fraid so. Lord knows why prime time TV is given over to this testicular nonsense.

I might have to go to the pub...

Cod in a glass, Wotan's daughter from Slovenia,, http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif..did they actually sharpen her teeth before they let her on?

In addition to being abysmally bad, the show has gotten weird as well. The Apocalyptica show was a nice treat though.

He may mean Iceland. I got a slap and dirty look (sustained) from Mrs. P for what slipped past my lips when the announcer from Iceland came on.

Eurovision angers me.

Stupid show.

Also, why didn't we (UK) give our points to Ireland?

Any Irish here, I'm sorry!

If all those bloc countries will vote for themselves, then UK and ROI should be voting for themselves. At least we should try to see France at the bottom!

It seems all the former eastern bloc countries voted together. Who'd have thought that the most lasting legacy of Uncle Joe was domination of the Eurovision Song Contest.

All the new countries and the 'democratic' (vs 'expert') voting system have f**ed the contest for good. Now everybody votes for nationalistic and cultural sympathies and not for musical reasons, therefore all the countries with cultural and historical affinities vote each other (the "ex-Yugoslavian", the "ex-USSR", the Baltic, the Turkish immigrants in Germany, etc.). Note how all of them have climbed to the top -independently from song quality- while the 'traditional stand-alone' countries which have no cousins, are all in the lower chart or -like Italy- don't even make it to the final.

The best songs can rarely win this way. Besides, it has become tackier than ever. Breaj.

Don`t hate the people, hate the system.

It is not people`s fault the contest has always been a country promotion farse.

Wikipedia is your friend.

Icelandic presenter is the former Miss Iceland, Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir. You'd have to search hard for a more Icelandic name.

She's really nice. Met her a couple of years ago. Was doing a report on some country in central Europe. 'Stopped in my town on the way back. She didn't have a hotel booked, so I said it was OK to stay at my place. She was no trouble at all.

1. Italy has not taken part for years.

2. Democratic is kinda cool... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

3. Bulgarian song was probably the best and just about the only non-plagiate, but just not washed out quite enough - pity.

I'd agree if people would vote the best song and not the best friend.

Bulgarian song was a three-minute headache with that ugly chick beating the chunda-chunda and shouting some horrible 'ethnic' cr*p like she was riding a bicycle without a seat. I thought they were killing a cat with a hydraulic hammer. It was non-plagiate and will surely never be non-plagiated, either. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

Anyway, I preferred it to the Ukranian embarrassing show. Someone should shoot that phony lady and put her out of her misery. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

Russian girls were cute. The song was a disgrace, but they were cute.

I'm Ukrainian, and I'm actually embarrassed by our entry. I can't believe that the best talent we can present to the world is a ridiculous transvestite circus sideshow with no lyrical value to speak of.

I'm even more disappointed in the voting audience that placed him so high. At this rate, soon we're going to be feeding Christians to lions for entertainment.

Yeah but look on the bright side. If it weren't for the horror of Eurovision I'd've had no idea of the existence of Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

No live orchestra and the music is mostly the same fire-and-forget **** they play on MTV. How about going back to basics. Just take a look at some old competitions (60's and 70's). There was the singer, maybe some backing vocalists and the song. Plain and simple. Today it is far from a song contest with all sideshow nonsense.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif There may be some truth in it. The whole aesthetics reminds too much of the glam divas and drag queen shows, and music is very alike the 'dance' things you can hear in 'gay culture' clubs.

Not that I know it first hand... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

As a curious note, the Spanish song was 'democraticly' chosen among several similar cr*ps in a TV show, and the song composers and lyric writers were presented to the public. Well, four out of five were gay couples. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
