Kinda curious, waiting for PF to arrive, what's the lowest end video card that can run "perfect water"? I've got an ATI 9800XT.

You mean what cards can do the shaders, or which ones can do it with playable fps? I play perfect with a 9800 pro. The fps also depend alot on how much cpu power you have, and what you consider decent. (In my case, i have an amp barton core at ~2.4ghz). I'm ok with frame rates in the 30's. I just had to realize I couldn't crank up the aa and af as much as id like if i wanted tothem to stay up there. 2x's aa and af is about the best i can do, and even then, islands can (i think mostly its just the shallow water) bring me down into the low 20's. but for the most part, its completely playable and better then aep was.

well, currently, the only card that has SM 3.0 is the latest nVidia card's, i would eighter recomend a expensive nVidia card, or wait for a ATI card that support SM 3.0

You should be OK with the 9800XT. If you set water = 0 in the conf.ini file you get a healthy frame rate boost for minimal loss of image quality over the default water = 1. I use it on my X800Pro rig and am very pleased with it.

I wouldn't worry too much about the water = 3, pixel shader 3.0 thing. It looks great in screenshots, but so far, from what people say, even on those cards able to use it (the 6800 series) the frame rates are very poor. No need to fret about not having access to a feature that isn't much use http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

Do I have any hope with a Radeon 9700 on a P4 2.66 GHZ with 512 RAM?

It's going to be marginal...

My old 9700Pro could only just about manage to run perfect mode. Try 1024 x 768 with only 2xFSAA and no AF. You might just manage it. Post up how it goes.

Thanks for the responses, I've got a 2.8 Dell XPS system with 1 Gig of Ram and that 9800XT, I'll try perfect water when I load the sim. Hopefully Amazon can deliver before Nov. 15th. I'll try water with =1, 2or 3 and see how plays out.
