One thing I have to confess that I never figured out, and which I would now like to be able to do, is level bombing through a bombsight. I have a fair understanding of all of the controls to make the scope work....but there is one *huge* issue: the damn airplane veers off while I'm trying to line things up for the kill! I noticed in the controls a 'toggle level autopilot' command. I bound it and tried it to no avail. What am I missing? Thanks in advance.

Keep looking, the one your looking for is "Level Stabilizer". The message when you hit the button mapped to it should be "Level Stabilizer On".

I think the button you hit, turned off the autopilot automation. It allows you to change seats without the autopilot taking over, Very useful in the SBD, allowing you to gun and evade at the same time.

Anyway, map keys for the bombsight controls (Elevation up and down, Slip, Airspeed up and down, Altitude up and down, and bombsight automation). After you've done that, your ready to go.

Launch a quick mission with an airfield as your target and set your starting altitude to 3000m (10,000 feet), Set your plane as a B-25, Payload 6 x 500 lb bombs and 25% fuel. Start the mission.

Once your in the cockpit, turn towards the target using the nose turret as a guide, and activate the level stabilizer. Enter your altitude into the bombsight, then enter your true airspeed.

Keeping things simple, Your True airspeed is higher than what the gauge in your cockpit indicates. Change to the bombardier position (Position 2 I think) and look to the left, You'll see a panel with an Airspeed indicator with two needles, the higher of the two readings is your true airspeed (Later on, you'll find this gauge is inaccurate as well, but for now we'll ignore it).

Enter your true airspeed into the bombsight, Align the sight over one of the hangars on the far side of the runway, and hit the key for "bombsight automation". This means it will adjust the crosshairs to account for the speed and altitude you've entered. It also will drop the bombs for you.

Your work isn't done yet though, The sight is going to try and slide off the target. Keep using rudder trim to keep the vertical line on target, and adjust the speed you set on the bombsight up and down to keep the horizontal line on target. Make small adjustments to your speed though, You shouldn't have to change it more then 30 mph in either direction of your indicated true airspeed.

After a spell, You'll get the bombs released message. Now your job is done, just watch the fireworks.

EDIT: Heres a link to the best level bombing how to I know of, It also includes settings for manual bomb release, an art I've yet to master

I have a bombsight tutorial on airwarfare as well. It would do well to check out each one of them. They all offer good tips.

If you want, I can set up some training sessions to teach you.

I am a high-level bombing instructor, and have trained many to become successful at it.

Just let me know, I'll be happy to help.

Planted Fab1000 from A20C in the middle of blue spawnpoint yesterday from 7km high. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Firstly, Bombsight Table (http://www.airwarfare.com/Sims/FB/files/essentials/Bombsight_Table_2.zip) is your friend.

Now, how to hit the target with manual release of the bombs in 3 steps:

1. When flying towards the target on level stab ON, adjust your heading using rudder trim (very slowly tho) - looking through your bombsight that you shifted up.

2. Then simply enter the IAS and altitude into the Bombsight Table, read the angle, and reduce this angle by approx 1.5 degrees (don't ask me why).

3. Drop when target crosses the crosshair.
