And one more: Is the soundtrack for Das Boot available on CD? I've got the vinyl album, but my turntable is history. Last time I checked I couldn't find it anywhere.

The book itself by Lothar-Günther Buchheim makes a nice reading too. I've started reading it a few days ago, and it's ideal when you have nothing to do in SH III

Yes, the book is indeed an interesting read. The movie is a very good adaptation, so if you like the movie you'll like the book. Recommended!

If you have iTunes installed, the Das Boot soundtrack (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=43676712) is available (on the UK store at least), plus I found this cheesy 'chill-out' version (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=73573384&selectedItemId=73573281)... of the main theme http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif You get a 30 second preview of each track, so you can just download the best bits.

Good news. I can get Das Boot CD from Amazon in Canada. There is some other Das Boot music listed. Das Boot 2001 single, there is not much detail, I think it is some kind of pop music, techno stuff. Anybody know for sure? There is also another album, Das boot U96, with a guy on the cover looks like he is wearing goggles. Anybody know what these other CD's are, anything to do with the movie? I've seen them on the Amazon Germany site, but I can't read the descriptions.

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Can somone please post a URL for this 6-hour version of Das Boot?

I've heard that "cheesy" version of the theme music (complete with the disco beat). Don't expect to see me shaking my booty on the dance-floor though. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I'd like the 6 hour version (original mini series) as well...
As for the music, the soundtrack (NOT the cheesy remixes by U96) is rather nice. I've added a few tunes from it to the game, for example "Auslaufen" at the beginning of patrols, and "U96" as a battle song. Adds a nice feeling to it all. They are also in my gramophone. I have to admit, I get a bit carried away at times, if I'm chasing a convoy contact in stormy weather, I HAVE to stand on the bridge with "U96" (track 4) playing on the gramophone. SCHNELLER! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

Im just seeing an interview with the actors from das Boot here in german TV.

Boy ! Did these guys become old http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

There are :

Jürgen Prochnow (The captain)

Uwe Ochsenknecht (The boatsmate that came up with this "writing otto, otto" stuff http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Jan Fedder (Pilgrim)

Heinz H¶nig (The radio and sonar men)

Herbert Gr¶nemeyer (Leutnant Werner) was also supposed to come but he is on tour with his band and had no time. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

They tell some interesting storys about the making of das Boot like that the sub model drowned right under their feet during the first shots in La Rochelle http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Jan Fedder said : "Yeah this d@mn thing was really a u-boat" escorted by laughter. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

There were also many crew members of the real U-96 crew at the set (plus the captain) as advisors for the movie during its making.
