What do you think of the new sig.... Now that I am seeing it on UBI grey ... I am not quite feeling it like I did.....

If you were going for an old tattered picture look, maybe dull down the colors a bit. Faded somewhat.

It doesn`t `fit` right. Why does it look like it`s been ripped off a page? Perhaps stick it in a squarer frame? Or oval? Or even have the aircraft itself without the tearing effect?

TBH it looks like a mouse has been at it, the old style was better.

it would be better without all the text that make up the rest of your sig. my advice would be to make a picture that would be about the width of your text and not too high either... it would look more like a one sig instead of a picture and some text.

by the way, what's up with the white dot on the upper left hand corner of the image?

flox
10-02-2007, 09:21 AM
Antialias those edges and I think it will look much better.

And isn't the forum limit supposed to be three lines of text in the sig? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I don't think clouds do it. But perhaps tattered paper, or a geometric area (trapezoid perhaps http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif ) for the white (or even off-white to tone down).

you're missing 3 very important things:

1. A kitten
2. A bloody battleaxe
3. A garden gnome

Fixed. Posting images in this way saves me the hassle of ftp'ing them when I can just add them as simple attachments there.

If you want the sig to have transparencies (for the cloud in it, for example) try saving it as .PNG, even if it becomes a tad bigger in size. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Good idea. Unique in appearance. Soften the edges up and perhaps add shadow border. Looks good.

I like Bewolf's burnt edges. Folded, creased maybe , with an oilstain on it or maybe an aged pencil notation. Maybe drop the 'Keep us flying' out altogether from the image as it spoils the top of the Pony's profile - maybe put it outside the image- like below as a separate title.
I wish I could Photoshop stuff.

Not too sure, BC, think I prefer the old one.
Maybe if you stretch the border a bit, the piece above the nose of the Mustang?
It seems cropped a little too close to the plane in that part - some of triads suggestions are much better, but it's your sig, so you gotta make the call, mate!

Bearcat IMHO the coolest looking sigs are either graphical artwork (profiles, paintings etc.) or actual aircraft pictures - that is if you insist of having the P-51 (aircraft) in your sig.

That is just my opinion.

Originally it was within forum regs.. that was why I was using the GIF format...
500x150px @ 37.98KB.. that was well within the regs.. it just looked bigger but it was actually on the same template dimensions as my older sig...

However in the PNG format it looks exactly like I want it to but it is now twice as large....
http://star.walagata.com/w/bearcat/UBI_99th_sig4.png
Does anyone know how I can reduce the size of the file without reducing it's dimensions...

Ok I guess Ill settle on this.. I have to dump the clouds... it makes it way too big...

Actually that text is in the 500x150 part.. it just doesn't look like it because there is no background.. then I have the two lines of text below.. The pic itself.. without the clouds is only 18 over.. and I have let more than that slide in other sigs...

I am just busting your ba11s BC. But I do not see your liks section as part of your png image. I see your lines of text starting with your links.

It goes:

That is 8 lines my friend!

Oh, I see you removed the spaces!

Nice BC- but I think it'd pop more if you outlined the top line of text with a 1 pt. white stroke. The gray bg makes it fade a bit too much imho.

Hey Bearcat I thought I'd play around with this for fun. I think it's too big though? I saved it as a PNG24, only way I could get it to work against the forum background colour. It's just an idea that could be improved with more work.

What's the forum background RGB?

Friendly_flyer
10-03-2007, 03:29 AM
I like the idea of the Mustang against the flat gray, but I think the colour of the plane is a bit off. Since the background is flat, I think the plane should be a tad flatter to match. Now it has a sort of rosy sunset glow to it, I would suggest replace the screenie with one taken in daylight, giving it a more standard profile-like appearance if you get what I mean.
