View Full Version : How often do you drink?

How often do you drink during one week?

02-10-2007, 07:45 PM
Aren't you supposed to drink about 3 litres a day? I do.

02-10-2007, 07:53 PM
You mean alcohol, right? I mean, I drink 5 pints of water a day, or more

I drink alcohol three or four nights a week. But that's not drinking till I vomit.

I go out twice a week, once to see some frinds, and that's 4 or 5 drinks, then I walk home. The other night I go out I have dinner and read, that's 3 or 4 drinks and I walk homw. Each of those is about 3 or 4 hours at the bar. It's very pleasant, I am frindly with all the staff and most patrons, and it's a nice way to pass the evening. Similar I gather to the pub life in England

But I commonly have a nice glass of scotch while I read at home or skin aircraft or what have you. That's not a "shot", perish the thought. Scotch is to be savored and enjoyed at leisure, not swallowed in a rush like some nasty medicine

All things in moderation is the key. I don't like the "well you drink four times a WEEK?" attitude. I could drink 7 days a week and only have 7 pints of lager. I could drink one night a week and have that same 7 pints all at once.

But that's "only drinking once a week", so it sounds better than having one pint a night all week

Am I "stuffy" for not drinking at all?

I've been called that on more than one occasion...

Only if you stand in a corner with arms crossed, squinting at others and judging them

If you dont do that, I wouldn't call you 'stuffy'. I'd call you 'designated driver for life'

I'm drunk right now, celebrating a promotion.

Hope I make it to work tomorrow.

02-10-2007, 11:44 PM
Not as often as I should given the state of my life. Once every few months or so.

02-10-2007, 11:51 PM
Once in a week, i.e. some 5 pints every Friday night if out, or an equivalent amount of bottled beer if in getting my a*se handed to me online http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

02-10-2007, 11:53 PM
Once every few months or so. Usually to unwind after a 16-hour callout to some snow-covered mountain here on the High Lonesome. I have taken my Daddy's advice though. He always said to drink the best. That way you go broke before you can become an alcoholic. So I tend to drink single malt scotches at least 12 years old or a good cognac with a Red Tail or Fat Tire Ale as a chaser.

I really did have 20 this Jan.. I missed that whole "moderation' talk somewhere along the line. Probably was smoking in the boys room.

Isn't a thing wrong with a little imbibing if you know your limit. I just didn't seem to be able too find what mine was.

02-11-2007, 02:53 AM
haven't had any alcohol in about 5 years now I think...

02-11-2007, 03:09 AM
2 or maybe 3 times a week. Beer usually, some wine sometimes. Harder stuff rarely. Water, every day 2 or 3 litres. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

02-11-2007, 03:17 AM
2 or three beers every evening, a lot more on fridays and saturdays. I smoke way too much as well.

I love beer bigtime but only drink about twice a month and get drunk about once a year, even then it isn't purposely.

When in Germany the figures are quite different, but so is the beer. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

If I do drink, I'll usually only drink about once a week after training with my re-enactment group.

If I'm in the mood for a drink, then I'll usually have 5-6 pints of ******ss, which gives me a nice wee buzz, and then it's off to the chippie for some nosh on the way home. Although, I'm not always in the mood for a drink, so I'll just have some diet coke instead.

02-11-2007, 07:18 AM
I normally drink a couple of times a week. I buy red wine and drink the bottle over the course of a few weeks. At social events I tend to drink a lot, mainly out of boredom and habit, but I always eat beforehand (except on one unfortunate occasion...) and every third drink is water.

02-11-2007, 07:20 AM
Weeknights, average 1 beer or glass of wine (usually with dinner, and depending what dinner is). Weekends, usually 2-3 drinks either Sat or Frid night when the Mrs and I go out for a dinner. During football season, there are usually several more beers on Sunday. Once a month or so, there is the stray after-dinner scotch or port thrown in to the mix, but those occasions are rare.

However, I can't remember the last time I got drunk. Its pretty rare that I even get anything beyond a very minor buzz. The last time I got truely loopy was around the holidays, when my buddy gave me a bottle of real Absythe he managed to sneak into the states as a present. Had about two shots of that in rapid succession after already having had a few drinks earlier in the evening, then found myself pretty much lucid, but immobile, for the next couple hours. Not much like drunkeness...an extremely odd feeling.

02-11-2007, 07:42 AM
I'm a social drinker. If I go out with friends at night I can drink some beer or maybe one long drink or two -depending on the company. But I don't have a very active social life, and that may happen just once or twice a month.

I NEVER drink alcohol at home. Just water, juices or soda. All my drinking habits are social-related, and sometimes I don't see a beer for months.

As for drinking a bit too much, that may accidentally happen once a year as much, but never to the point of being sick or acting a jerk. Not since my mid-twenties -and much rain has fallen since then.

02-11-2007, 08:03 AM
As far as alcohol or anything else goes, if you "need" it, or cannot take it or leave it, you have a problem.

I found this out the hard way when I was younger, I drank so much I used to throw up blood in the bathtub in the morning, and I had to go to the hospital and have my stomach pumped one night when I drank a whole bottle of whiskey, a bunch of tequila and beer, and other stuff I cannot remember.

Now I have high blood pressure, heart arythma, and metabolism problems and probably am not going to be around as long as I would if I had not drank. I know alcoholism is supposed to have some genetic marker, but I am sure a lot of it is how you learn to deal with problems in life when you are maturing. You can drink your problems away, or you can deal with them intelectually and mature.

Most alcoholics, and users of other drugs, stop emotional and mental development the year they become dependent on the drug to solve things for them. It took me a long time to grow up........

02-11-2007, 08:08 AM
A couple of scotches every night before dinner unless I am going out; then nothing.

02-11-2007, 08:19 AM
Mmmm, beer. Love my beer, although to qualify that it has to be something bloody good to make me part with my dosh. Been a CAMRA member since 1975 so you see what sort of stuff I like.

Don't drink much in the way of spirits these days although I do like a single malt, especially anything from Islay, Skye, Jura or Orkney. I refuse point blank to drink these in a pub though as the cost is way, way too much.

Will also drink wine, red preferred, but normally only with meals on special occasions.

I will absolutely refuse to drink ANYTHING from a tin/can. I'd rather drink Baldric's urine than that! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

I don't drink much.

I don't like alcohol, but I'm a student so I still drink a little.

I drink basically every time I go out, but I'm usually so busy with study these days that I don't go out much.

When work isn't overbearing, I probably drink 1/2 times each week. Recently, I've probably been drinking, on average, once every two weeks. And I don't go crazy either. 3-4 pints on average.

Had to give up Newcastle Ale, ******ss, scotch, and my beloved cigs due to allergies. Pathetic. Enforced virtue. Sipped a scotch for hours two months ago and received a splitting headache. Have not gotten therapeutically blitzed in 12 years. AGH. Female for whom I have inordinate lust is in same situation. When we were young wildcats, we dissipated ourselves with glee like 18th century debauchees. Drank and howled and read poetry. Now she writes brilliant novels and has a bit of a spread amidships, and I edit her work and I, too, have a spread amidships. Fortunately she is still a daft girl at heart! Sic transit gloria mundi.

I must say, given a choice between drinking or being designated driver, I'd always choose the car. I love driving much more than I love alcohol - and I miss my car...

Half dozen shots of whiskey a night. Still young and I know this will, or has become, a health issue for me. So, when the elevator hits the basement, I know I'll have some experienced fellows looking down upon me.

02-11-2007, 03:36 PM
Where is the option for 7?
I drink red wine with dinner nightly, a couple of glasses--its a medically proven supply of anti oxidants for the aging body and also good Aussie red tastes great as well.
Better than other smokable substances a lot of people used in their youth-- a historic memory returns.

Couple of times a week, might have a quiet bottle of wine in an evening when I get home curled up infront of the TV or chuck 1/2 a dozen large tins of Stella down http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Used to drink a bit in the RAF.... ie well into double figures, but then we all did.....

Worst drinking experience, Sorry Blairgowrie look away now...................

Visited the Bushmills Distillery during a tour of Northern Ireland and we were shuttled into a room with all this free malt to try.......... no mixers were provided Gulp! but we went for it all the same, some of it was purportedly to have been quite old, but we still threw it down our throats with gusto.........

After that we went to see the Giants Causeway, legend has it it was built by a giant to cross the sea to Scotland to fight another Giant and I threw up all over it........ boy did I chuckle that day...
