Back when I used to play CAOD, the graphics were so poor that you really couldnt control your ship properly from the bridge,so you had to use the charts for manouvering around a convoy etc..in silent hunter2 the graphics were much better, but i still didnt used the charts. In real life im sure the captain would not be running up and down the conning tower looking at his plot, and marking in ships positions etc. So Im wondering how do all of you do it? Do you stay on the bridge/Uzo/periscope view for most of the time,or just for the actual targeting part etc?

well, now i use the charts.. but i imagine i will be needing it less with sh3.. in full realistic settings, i don't think we'll be able to see the ships moving on the chart.. so you'll depend more on visually sighting the ship.

the more i here about this game, the more i cant wait for it.i got an email today from a computer game website that id signed up to for news of any changes in the date in SH3's release. It said it was being moved to the 8th of March, which it obviously isnt.

They shouldnt play with my emotions like that.

During navigation, I drive my CAOD subs mainly from tactical chart, as the visual from tower is really poor.

In my mind, anyway, this chart is a sort of lookouts/soundman mode, where I get a panoramic wiew with all informations not available staying on the bridge or in control room.

When really close to action, I prefer the right station.

I think even in silent hunter i will use the map to navigate round a convoy. I mean in a 2d game its hard to take it all in unlike real life. Unless its possible to tell distances ect i will use the map to go around convoys and get ahead of them. But for surface attacks ect i would use the bridge views! (i did this in aces of the deep also)

Dont worry guys, in Full realistic Mode you will be able to see you and other ships on the chart, so manuvering wont be a problem. because it is just a game and it is supposed to give us fun.

When maneovering arround a convoy, I used the UZO to get their distance, speed and bearing. But I supose using a bit of paper wouldn't be anatema.

Inside of the convoy, I almost always used map to know the gaps, the possition of any destroyer and so on. But never to mark ships.

SH2 was greatly improved in this field, so the map was just good to figure the shape of the convoy and the possition of the best prey. All other work (moving arround and so on) was done from the bridge.
