03-30-2005, 09:47 PM
i play with 92% i have everything set to real cept exterior views, i love seeing ships blow up from different angles i dont us it for any advantage to myself but when im cruising through aves in rough seas its nice to see it from the outside its so well detailed in this game, how bout u guys?? i find real is the only way to play these games, and **** who else is getting annyoed with fulty torpedo triggers lol its annoying when it hits on a bad angle so i try to attack from abeam(i think thats how u say it when ur 90 degress to their side...)

I had to drop to 69% on the Torpedo lesson because over half my torpedo stores were duds every time and I couldn't complete the lesson. Plus it took so long to reload, all the other targets would sail away so I had to turn on God's Eye on the map and turn off realistic reloads.

Now that I've started my career, everything is maxed except free-view. Like you, I really like looking around and getting the big screen view of my kills dipping beneath the waves.

03-30-2005, 10:12 PM
I have my realism set at 89%. Insofar as the duds go, I haven't had a significant percentage of my torpedos not arm, so it hasn't been an issue. Mind you, I'm very conscious of the AOB, so that may be a small part of it.

Bugs aside, I am absolutely loving this game, period! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I wish my duds were an AOB issue but I was attacking full-on broadsides and had 5 consective fish bounce off the hull and kind of drift away and sink. I calculated a solution, torpedoes no workie. I let the WO give me a solution, torpedoes no workie. I set No Duds, torpedoes worky in a very big way.

97% with the event camera turned on.

03-30-2005, 11:44 PM
100% http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

If I have external cam on I'm always too tempted to use it and it decreases the whole atmosphere of being in the sub. I have my trusty periscope anyway http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Time compression as well, I need to find a way to make max time compression near ships 1. My hand is attracted to the + button http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

I now play at 60%, have icons on map/TDC-map, no duds and auto-TDC. I will go to manual TDC eventually, but I suck at it too much to mess up my career with it. Practice it in single missions though.

100% for me in my current campaign
i have and still will use eternals again,as its so pretty, but for the full immersion factor, its full real for me
11 patrols and still alive,,woot!

03-31-2005, 06:17 AM
68 percent right now.

All set to realistic, except showing contacts on the map, the external camera and automatic TDC. Next i'm gonna deactivate the contacts on the map (hydrophone, pen and ruler are fun! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) . And eventually i'll try manual targetting. But i will never deactivate the external camera. I never use it to evaluate the situation anyway. I only enjoy watching my boat cruise, or getting cool views of my sinking target when the trouble is already over. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I simply don't want to miss views like those:

A calm morning north of scandinavia... it's almost 7am in March of 1940, and the sun isn't even close to getting over the horizon.

A meeting with a neutral trawler... we waved at each other (no pun intended) and parted our ways again. No harm done. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Later on this patrol (my 6th) i came across this beautiful C3-Cargo Ship. I hit it with 2 torps and it listed like this for three quarters of an hour. Notice how it's still drifting here.

A couple of minutes later it finally stopped moving and i took a closer look. I waited and waited, but it wouldn't sink by itself. **** mechanics!

After said three quarters of an hour i was fed up with waiting and moved my boat in optimal firing position, to put that freighter out of it's misery. Guess it worked.

Home Sweet Home!

See? I'll never ever lose the external cam! Way too much fun!

44%...because I'm a n00b.

03-31-2005, 07:07 AM
68%. I will be getting rid of the on map ship icons very soon as I have gotten more skilled at attack and the use of the hydrophone.

I am on my 15th war patrol. I started at the earliest possible date in 1939 in a Type II. I am still sailing in my VIIB (U-47) now operating out of Brest. I don't see a great advantage to upgrading to a charlie class (unless someone can convince me otherwise). I will probably step up to a type IX when available if for no other reason than the added firepower.

I have sunk a grand total of 136,832 tons of shipping, including 3 destroyers. It would be higher but my first 5 patrols were disasters. My last two patrols have been good ones. Got into convoys on both. The last one I had to leave a severely wounded troop ship and tanker (sunk another tanker and C3) due to very aggressive anti-submarine efforts from the two remaining destroyers (I sunk the one leading the convoy and the other two were playing possum at the rear, not showing themselves until I surfaced to try to go to deck guns...ouch).

I love this game.

89% here. I keep only the event camera and the free camera, and I only use the free camera for screenshots, never for gaining a tactical advantage.

@ NaturalBornGoth: nice screenshots!

03-31-2005, 07:17 AM
NaturalBornGoth, beautiful screenshots. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I use 80% realism, the external cam because the sim is far too beautiful to switch it off (although I don't use it to 'cheat') and the map updates because of the missing map tools. Have played a few missions at 100% but my current settings are the ones I have the most fun with SH3.

03-31-2005, 12:21 PM
Mine's somewhere in the sixties, I think 61%. I have the external and action views enabled, plus I make the computer run the TDC and update the map. Everything else is set to "realistic", if I remember correctly.

I figure I'm not the only guy on the boat and I've got a very efficient weapons officer-designate (carefully promoted and decorated with the EK2.K and a couple of other medals) to take care of my work. After all, I've got the Ritterkreuz, and I can afford to be a prima donna. We of the Hundred Thousand Club are too busy counting tonnage to do menial things such as set up the torpedo shot. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

03-31-2005, 12:46 PM
I'm at 59% I believe. External cam on, event cam on, quiet meter on, auto TDC, and map contacts updated. I'm new to sub sims so maybe later I'll go without a few of these extra things!

03-31-2005, 02:59 PM
I play on 65% or something like that.

I have external camera, map update, and auto TDC.

I PLAY very realistically though.

Believe me, playing on full realism isn't exactly "realistic".. it's just more tedious.

The fact that the game doesn't include a friggin protractor for god's sake means that you can't even plot accurately with the in-game tools. There are so many things "missing" in the map tools, like showing time stamps on the marks you make, etc. Maybe if the sonarman could give me updates on heading/distance at regular intervals would help.. but instead I have to click around on the menus, and even then he may not tell me how far a contact is- so I have to go to the sonar room and point the hydrophone in the proper direction for him.. stuff like this makes it more difficult than it needs to be.

As the Captain of the sub, I am concerned with gathering the information my crew gives me, and using that data to put myself into position.

100% and time comp. at 32 max (Realism freak), during engagements no TC. With this setup I can enjoy every element of the game.
Boring long cruising http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif and then the even more appreciated action http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif.

Also at 32-TC the crew fatigue is working fully.
(On surface 2 hours shifts, below 1 hour)

03-31-2005, 03:14 PM
I have mine set to 92%, just so i can use the external camera when there is no enemy ships around...dont use it for any kind of advantage in battle.

03-31-2005, 04:05 PM
I play with only map updates on I used external camera before But i could not avoid using it to my advantage (yeah i'm weak minded http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif) on my ninth patrol in 1941

03-31-2005, 04:10 PM
Ha, funny, i can't help but use my external cam, all the time. everywhere. "I just gots to know." And i love watching it, sometimes i die just watching the destroyer DC me.
I also think the map settings could be improved, or at least the tools that were already mentioned. But like he said, the whole map system could stand some tweaks
Oh, and I turned the duds off too. When something doesn't blow up, i want to know its my fault. Hell, sometiems they still dont blow up. lol

03-31-2005, 09:18 PM
Yeah for me its about 80%, the only thing I have is the map update and external cam.

Bout the same reasons as above, the graphics are just to sweet not to have the ex cam. And yeah, I don't use it for tactical use mainly just so I can watch my victims sink and little things like that sometimes.

As for map update, I am really hopeing the next patch will add some basic needed things like the a protacter, and of course make the hydrophone man actually usefull.

I mean, cmon, all I need is a protactor and the ability to ask the hydrophone operator to tell me all current contacts! Is that to much to ask?

I do like the ability to have my weapons officer plot for me, lest in reality I would think most captins would be busy managing the ship not dialing the torp computer, but I do think there should be some penalty/error in his identification and solution.

03-31-2005, 10:20 PM
100% and when I die so does that career. I start a new one.
