Thanks for the Bumping...

Oddly enough, many people tend to pass over the Forum Stickies after a while, out of habit. So it's good to have both the Sticky and the occasional bump of this thread. In a thread at the Movie-Maker Forum about a particular movie recently released, someone mentioned the competition and someone else responded, "What competition?"..
Again, the bumps will help.

This movie, made using the very simple tool of the original IL2 is an absolute classic and has never been surpassed in feeling for the human struggle to prevail against overwhelming odds.
It's told from one side of the war, but each side faced these demons at some stage. The makers' grasp and portrayal of his subject is simply outstanding and it's a crying shame that the high rez version has been lost.
I salute and stand in awe of 1/JG54_ SerpentBlade for his production of________

REQUIEM.

The shots below simply cannot portray the power of this movie, if you get the chance, grab it.

The 24.4Mb WMV version of "Requiem" is available at the Flight Sim Movies website on the "Golden Oldies" Page (see my SigBlock for link to FSM).

I originally uploaded/hosted "Requiem" at my (now long-defunct) website, "Wiley's WWII Guncam World" beginning March 19, 2003. I hosted both an 8Mb and a 24.4Mb version. At the time, 24.4Mb was considered a fairly large file/movie, so I routinely offered compressed versions of large files/movies for the benefit of Dial-Up community members.

To the best of my recollection, the 24.4 Mb version was the largest (highest resolution) version ever released.

this was an era where people were gaming on 56K

the first 100mb videos had trouble finding host , the people who made them were unsure wether to release it & people were complaining that it was a 100 mb file

"dude , no way am i DLing a 100 mb movie , cant you post a smaller one"

edited - because this thread isnt about past movies . no matter how good they were

DaVinci: I hope you will be entering this 2008 competition. The 100MB limit set for this Competition, assuming compressed to that with XVid, will provide the opportunity for excellent resolution and soundtrack fidelity for a mere 4-7 minute movie. Also, WMV formatted movies have come a long way in quality since the early days of IL2 movie-making.

Hi Davinci, it would be great to see a comeback from you for the competition. There are some promising newcomers to the hobby but it is still great for old timers to make the occasional appearance.

We hope this competition will be a showcase of the current state of the hobby so the more quality movies, the merrier http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
