I was up to Alaska with my kids fishing. Very windy day, cross wind on the trail. We turned a corner and there was a 8or9 hundred pound Brown bear standing on his/her hind legs, 30 yards away. Lucky it bolted away, we were all in hip boots, with no trees near bye, just a bunch of devils club bushes. I will never forget its eyes. Before that brown, we saw 4 blacks through the day. The blacks are very nimble,Beware

Well Slo_1_2_3 since you have never seen the movie "Deliverance" and since the mountains of East Tennessee is where I was born and was my old stomping grounds from Oak Ridge to FlagPond, and considering the Nolechucky is where Deliverance was filmed.....I've written you a little rhyme to help you remember how to get along with the local "wild life" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Grits with my cornbread,
Sugar in my tea,
Have to love a sayin,
SuuUUiiee,
Can't wrestle with the bears,
They jus chase ya up a tree,
But them local mountain boys sure is friendly,
SuuUUiiee all day, SuuUUiiee all night,
Pig might be in the poke,
But you'll get poked all night,
Tell em you're a yankee, an spit on General Lee
Then turn and grab your ankles, now don't bend your knee's!
Eat them ramp onions so a kissin you'll not be,
But say "howdie do ya'll I like to go SuuUUiiee!!"

Have a nice trip......Leave your IL2/AEP/PF/4.05 disks with a friend http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

You're ok slo... Deliverance was filmed on the Chatooga in north Ga. But, of course, the "wildlife" was modeled after the area you ARE going so maybe you should watch your back.

Real men ride the Ocoee, by the way.

Nice poem Billfish. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

He'll never come back the same...... Ned Beatty STILL won't watch 'Deliverance' and it's been 30 years since he acted in it.

All I know if someone tells you you have a purty mouth ... RUN!!!!!

Deliverence is an adventure/ buddy flick gone wrong.

4 guys set out to white water raft down this river. While having lunch they run into these pretty demented characters who rob, beat up and then rape Ned Beatty's character. It was a pretty brutal scene for 1969 or so.

The guys totally humiliated Ned Beatty. Much of what transpired on the film was ad lib. The guys also weren't REAL movie actors but locals with shady pasts. If I remember right from a documentary one had actually served time for aggravated assualt.

It stars a young Burt Reynolds, Angelina Jolie's dad, John Voight and, Ronny Cox. (Robo Cop)

Dueling Banjo's was the theme song...where it became popular....My rhyme based on they made Ned Beatty get on all fours and "squeel like a pig boy!!" before they "said howdie"......You call pigs by making a sound similar to their squeel..."suiee" (sue'ee).

Have a good time slo and please post some pics when you get back. Also, try not to get your butt tank topped off by the Scoutmaster.

Briefly, Deliverence is a film based on a 1970 novel of the same name by southern author James Dickey. The Great Santini was another one of his novels that made the silver screen. The movie Deliverence was shot in the Tallulah Gorge in Tallulah Falls, Georgia and on the Chattooga River, dividing the states of Georgia and South Carolina.

I had both a coon and squirrel skin cap. The chicks didn't dig either. Bottom line, cool in the woods, not at the prom.

Nice you survived.

It's been a while since I've been in that area, but I remember it well. NOC is the Nantahala Outoor Center. That's who we usually went through on our raft trips.

The guides always fascinated me. One of them told me he travelled with a largish group that taught skiing in Colorado in the winter and led rafting/ kayaking trips in NC in the summer. Fun year round. The women were granola types. No shaving.

And yea, they liked it when they got a crew that could pull their own weight.

Didn't those life vests smell great?

Must be pretty common as a guide told me the same thing in WV. His girlfriend told us his family was fairly wealthy and he'd traveled to different parts of the world to run white water. Don't know how true it was, but he was good and guided our trips several times.
