Well, I just uninstalled SH3 and, I hope, Starforce using the Starforce removal tool. What a shame. I had just purchased SH3 and was really enjoying it. I just can't take a chance with flaky DRM software. What a shame.

Shame, shame, shame.

People love being drama queens, don't they?

You actually had it INSTALLED. Working. And then, after you took all the risks and nothing went wrong, you uninstalled it to get some attention. Do you realize that if - on the extremely slim probability "if" - StarForce was going to do any damage to your system, it would have done so after the first reboot? But oh no, you're here to attention *****.

I've had StarForce on my system for years now. Most people have, and they don't realize it. And their computers work fine for years like that. Then, inevitably, something breaks and there's geniuses like you to blame StarForce.

I have call of Duty 2 and Silenthunter 3 installed, both contain starforce and I have been fortunate enough to have zero problems (touch wood)
Though I still dont agree with starforce, its the way things are going now and its not going to change, call me defeatist but the sad reality is We have a choice.
Learn to live with starforce - or learn to live without pc gaming. Well, Im choosing the former.
If you want to go the other way then thats too bad.

how does one know if they have Starforce on their system...? Apart from having SHIII installed, that is....

Is it something that Norton Anti-virus can detect (if so, my version has yet to find it).

Perhaps I don't know what exactly this 'Starforce' thing is, and what all the hoo-ya with it is all about...probably one of those times where ignorance is bliss, lol....

Starforce is copy protection software, so Norton won't find it because it isn't a virus, though some on the forums would have you believe otherwise.

So your saying that Starforce isn't responsible for not booting up my friend's pc since some USB devices got hooked up? Once my friend unplugged it and it booted up fully shouldn't be blamed on Starforce?
Whatever http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/351.gif

And it is also quite annoying when people install a game with StarForce, get no problems, and then assume that because they had no problems it would break the laws of physics if anyone else did.

In a telephone interview with Larry King, Oprah Winfrey dismissed the allegations as unimportant. She said, "What is relevant is that Starforce stepped out of that history to be the DRM they are today and to take that message to save other people and allow them to save themselves."

Absolutely.

CoD2 uses the benign SafeDisk solution for copy protection, whereas Ubisoft decided SH3 would employ the aggressive and intrusive StarForce scheme.

Starfoce has caused small problems with my system, but not enough to (keep) using the no-cd crack.

Starforce is not popular. I would ditch it in a second if Ubi supported that. But here in lies the rub.

Imagen this: You have a computer, you have starforce. You don't like starforce. Then your DVD-ROM fails. So you blame starforce. Problem is YOU DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT KILLED THE DRIVE.

Thousands of ppl have starforce. They all have DVD roms. Some of them are going to have failed DVD roms.

Lets take my actual case. I purchased an HP DVD drive. 4 months later it failed. If I had heard of starforce's alleged ability to fail drives I might have considered it. (Though software damaging hardware is a red flag that you are on the recieving end of some good &^%$)

Before you suggest that starforce was the cause of the problem, you should know that I didn't get SH3 until a few months after that and I don't have any other starforce games.

My point is that many claims against starforce are not solid claims. The unpopularity of starforce doesn't help.

These are the kinds of problems starforce really causes (and why I don't like SF myself)

My Shogun Total war will not run with the starforce drives installed.

My DVD will not burn DVD-R's reliably with SF installed.

I could not run SH3 in compatability mode when trying to troubleshoot problems with it.

I had the No-CD crack. I used it to trouble shoot my SH3. But before you go and get the no-cd crack from anywhere, you should know that there are riskes involved from taking unknown software from unknown persons and just ASSUMING it doesn't also contain viruses or spyware etc.

So if you have SH3 working, and SF isn't causing you any trouble, you should be set.

Oh yea, I forgot to mention, Starforce kicked my dog.
