Can somebody recommend a good pearl mission? The one that comes in the game has all the torpedo bombers hitting the tender next to the USS Arizona.

I would like a huge historically accurate battle if one has been built.

Many thanks.

I too have noticed that USS Vestal seems to be the unfortunate recipient of the proverbial poop-load of torpedos.

A full scale PH would be pretty cool, but then having 200+ planes zipping about might nerf your FPS a bit unless you're running it on a Cray 2 or something http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif

Add to the above shortcomings the fact that the Oahu map is quite inaccurate, and we have RN KG V class battleships instead of the WW1 era USN Dreadnaught types and I say, why bother?

As a naval buff this REALLY bugs me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

KGV don't look even REMOTELY like Standards

True enough. The closest other substitutes are the USN cruiser (Indianpolis) and Soviet Marat BB. Neither ideal.

I have always wondered why they didn't include a one of the WWI era battleships, like Nevada, Pennsylvania, or Mississippi. Grumman wasn't even around back then, so I think a direct legal problem would have been unlikely. It is probably a case of (1) Low priorty (they are only good for a few battles: Pearl Harbor and shore bombardment in campaigns such as Tarawa and Okinawa) and (2) Throwing the baby out with the bathwater when Oleg scrapped almost all further development of Pacific Fighters, especially, American stuff, after the Grumman debacle.

Maybe Taranto would be more appropriate for them poor PC's.....but then, we don't have a Swordfish ;-) No flares either for that matter...
Maybe the planned, and subsequently scrapped, raid on Scapa Flow?
Even the KGV's will fit in.
And then the Scapa map can be used for the planned, and yes, subsequently scrapped, Mistel attack.

I have the blunt mind thinking with great force, now I just need some time ;-)

I have a pretty good rig, and the Pearl map alone w/o any objects requires me to turn off all AA and AF settings to achieve fluid gameplay. IMHO The map itself tends to be an FPS hog, by the time all the proper objects and a/c are added it would be a slide show on A LOT of systems.

See this thread for Danschnell's historic Pearl Harbour Missions. Beware, however, you'll need a very stout rig to run them!

Hey Lanzfeld 13! I have great news for you. I'm actually working on a very realistic Pearl Harbor mission and it still needs few month of work . The only problem is the map's realism... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif
But I made a post about that and I HOPE that they're gonna listen to me! lo0l http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/agreepost.gif

The main problem is with the airfields http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif and the need of older airplanes like the B-18, the 0-47, the vindicator,0-49,0S2U's, P-26 Peashotter ....

keep fingers crossed that one day third party modders will correct some of the PF shortcomings...fingers crossed - but not do not hold yer breath...

all tha accuracy issues aside, the other night I played a single player PH mission someone had uploaded to UBI. It was playable on my new machine with some minor stutters but it would just kill a medium to older machine. Not to mention I spent most of the time flying in a circle trying to evade a zillion AI A6m5 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

i haven't noticed any "oleg's high standards" posting here. lmfao

many problems with hawaii map. my favorite is the ****-smear behind the headquarters building on ford. not sure if the shallows cause the fps drain but scanning the map with no objects and fraps reveals eveything. add the fact that battleships are the largest fps drain of any ship - i lose 15 fps rendering one ship looking straight down - and it all spells disaster for any mission builder.

that said, hawaii has become my favorite map. i use it for advanced training. couple wip pics, enjoying every second.
