View Full Version : Display icons for non-plane objects?

Is there any way to display icons for runways or carriers, or any non-plane object for that matter?

I'm particularly interested in being able to see the distance I am away from a runway or carrier.

Thanks.

Hi,

I'm pretty certain that can't be done. Never saw it in seven years anyway http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

You could use the kneepad map, at full magnification, and count grids, but that's about it.

Otherwise you could do it online, by getting a mate to sit in his plane on a carrier or wherever and useing his icons, but mostly you will have to judge it by eye.

Strafing ground targets, well, don't shoot until you see the whites of their eyes!

Pressing F5 will show where the ground targets are. The ground targets will be identified with a blue triangle, which only shows when you are close to the target.

In 'controls' you can map a key or joystick button to show the 'next' or 'previous target', if you have'nt already done this (it is the same command used when padlocking an aircraft to shift the padlock to the next target).

Yeah, sorry juryman - I was commenting on the distance icons only! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

In my case I am interested in the distance, although I think I will take a look at that F5 key. I've never used that before. Seems like every couple months I discover something new and useful.

What we had in mind was messing around with some airshow type stuff, and I thought it would help our practicing if we could aim for certain altitude/airspeed marks at certain distances from the runway. (I'm sort of embarassed to say that's what we're up to, because we are SO not any good. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif)

I do like your idea of parking a plane just off the center of the runway. That should give us a distance icon. Or I guess we could just put some marker objects (tank, whatever) on the terrain at specific distances from the runway.

Thanks for the help!
