Sorry guys, I was trying the other night to post some images from the "Victory at Sea" DVD set and couldn't figure out PhotoBucket, I think we got it this time. Here in the first image you see B-24's over the Pacific and getting ready to plaster Guadalcanal;

In the next we can see the stick of bombs going off just beyond the beachhead prior to the landing of the marines;

In this third shot you can see the marines piling out of the Landing Craft. Note they are all carrying the shorter M1 Carbine, rather than the heavier and more cumbersome Garand rifle;

My favorite photo here, the Marine's mascot "Sampson" comes ashore on "Day One."

And this killer image, a Betty screams past the deck of a US Destroyer in the supply column after blasting the beachhead. The three men in the foreground give a great sense of scale, that guy is flying low. And if you watch the DVD, you get a sense of speed, he is also flying very fast, no one even fires at the plane he goes by so fast,

All the best, LongHorn

Wow! that is quite the shot. My Father is law was one of the first SEALS (then called UDT) and had a series of photos taken from a rubber raft with a captured japanese gun camera. They are of a VAL making a run on their carrier and being intercepted and shot down by two corsairs. Hope I can find em some day.

My dad was issued a carbine while fighting in the PAcific with the US army. Hated it! No power and short-ranged he used to tell me. Would have much rather had a Garand.
