I found foll. good page with details of Orzel class :
http://www.dutchsubmarines.com/export/export_orzel.htm

I noted some interesting comparisons with German
U-boots (especially with IXB and IXD2):

Orzel had 4 bow and also 4 stern tubes !,
84 m lenght (between IXB and IXD2),
20 kts/9 kts surface/submerged max speed (v.good)!
7000 nm surface/100 nm ! submerged endurance
only 100 m diving depth and long 50 s dive time
only 20 torpedos

so my opinion - Orzel class looks like strong armed and with very good speed submarine for long-distance patrols (however with just 7000 nm endurandce)

Ok have looked at rules, no mention of unlimmited ammo, reload times, no god eye map, real fuel, and dont understand why u feel its an achivement? With unlitted ammo/ fuel any 1 can get 100k ffs, getting any map info makes it too easy, have i missed something? is it presumed u play at full realism? Iwish some1 would start a proper tunnage club with full realism [only exception is free camera for screenies]. When i read the forums the impression i get is peeps play sh3 as a sim not a game! yet most posts with screenies show most play with god eye map, why? If its a sim then try and go real as poss, defeats the point of the game other wise. You will get more out of sh3 by doing so. Ps dont mention the 200k club, lmao, call it the "i got all night club" or " patient club" cos thats all u need for 200k without full realism!

The 100K Club has long since lost its lustre. It was something to aim for when the game first came out. Now that it's been out for so long and the body of expertise has developed, it is largely irrelevant. Sure, given unrestricted reality settings it it easy to rack up a big score. The challenge is in doing so whilst playing at 100%. Most people who post for it are decent enough to include their reality settings, which allows you to rate the accomplishment. The game's original damage models are also skewed: torpedoes are more reliable than real life, even when you select duds, ships are easy to sink, the deck gun is overpowered, etc.

Because there are so many purists out there, a whole slew of mods have been developed to try to make the game more challenging and realistic. We'll never get it 100%, but we can get it a lot better than the out-of-the-box game. If you want to be challenged, try Grey Wolves, NYGM Tonnage War for two. Some people here play with War Ace, but I have no experience with that mod.

And don't waste any sleep over the 100K Club; it's long been out of fashion, in spite of our sig banners.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I think the idea of some sort of 100% realism mod would be respectable. 50K would be doing pretty good then. I'm probably averaging about 18-20K or so per patrol for the time being in my VIIC. Thats by looking at my personnel file and including my less succesful patrols, and that one where I got 0. Thats at full realism except external cam.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/agreepost.gif Totally agree there, 18 months on and I'm still having a blast (pun unintended http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) The game has managed to keep me interested thanks to the mods - and even though I have posted 8 or so 100K patrols, they are not he reason I keep playing. The Career format is fantastic as every patrol is different and can be a real challenge from one grid square to the next. To be honest this forum is enough to keep me interested alone - it's so adddictive, like the game!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

The 100k club for me lost its purpose a long time ago when I found out most of its members were playing at realism settings that were outright ridiculous, as for the 200k club its a joke. I found it really annoying when none of them even have the courage to post their game settings with their proposed 100k results. I enjoy playing 100% realism with Grey Wolves and I am glad I made the move to full realism a while back. Every ship that I atleast hit with a torpedo in very bad weather makes me feel very good, even if it doesn't go down. Not to forget the adreniline rush you get when you have to listen for the DD's while in your command room and not watch them with externals http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif If I can come home with one ship under my belt for that patrol, I'm more than satisfied.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

If it's not your cup of tea, move on to the next thread.

Everyone is encouraged to play the game any way they want and have fun doing it.

If you want more of a challenge, set the criteria and make your own version of a club then ask people to participate.

Throwing stones isn't cool.

I agree, this game is to be enjoyed at every level, when i started i couldn't hit a T3 at 300m, but i have improved and i think the 100k club has added yet another challenge to SH3, its great when you get over the 100, regardless of your realism settings, i have managed it only once with Grey Wolves even though it was with a 29% realism, and i am still proud of it. Once i had achieved that,i upped my settings to 53% and now 73%, its all about improving your technique and challenging yourself, i have come close to the 100k recently, and one day i will achieve it, i hope! For me, the 100k club sets a challenge for all levels and its always an achievement whether at 29% or 100% depending on your experience with the game, i think we all have to go back to our very first patrol? remember it? For me 10k on my first Patrol would have been a miracle, let alone 100k, there are lots of people on this forum who have only just started playing, for many of them the 100k club is a great incentive.......and as Mothballed says why knock it, nobody is forced to join the club.......i mean you only have to look at the number of views it gets and the number of posts.....that in itself shows how popular it is, and i hope that very soon i will be able to post another 100k at 73% realism but in the mean time i enjoy the game whether i get 10k or 100k in a patrol, but 100k with manual targeting is one of my main aims........<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I agree ali_109, I havent posted in a while other than this morning but i only recently started playing shIII again so i need to update my signature cause i removed the game completely and now its back on. Im playing at 64% setting but i might start another campagin and do it at full realism only leaving the external camera. The other day i encountered a large convoy hit two C3 tankers in very rough weather with escorts searching for me, then i hit a third C3 tanker while i was shadowing along side them keeping fairly close to their speed of 5 knots and then i manualy setup another shot at one C3 and got a hit under the keel in the boiler room/engine room area and killed her on the spot. i stayed submerged for about 4 hours to let the destoryer leave and then i put another torpedo under her keel and sent her to the bottom. I never got the 100K club but its not a big deal to me. I just enjoy playing the game<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I know what you mean. I play with all the realism except for the god's eye map (which you mentioned) and the realistic sensors (I hate finding out a plane is around by the sounds of bombs slamming into my hull without any prior warning). I thought about joining the 100K club but decided since I wasn't doing 100% that I wouldn't bother.

It is Oct 1942 in my campaign (26 patrols completed) and I've already outscored Silent Otto's tonnage by about 14 times so I don't take my campaign seriously as a sim level sort of thing.

My next (3rd) Campaign I plan to get Gray Wolves and stick to 100% and if I can survive the war I will consider it a victory and to hell with tonnage.

Milner62
10-19-2006, 02:53 AM
i agree just surviving the war is big enough victory as getting 100k. Im only in my 8th patrol but i started in 1939 and its now december 1940 and im still out on patrol i saved it where im shadowing a large convoy into port. But im at the realism setting i am cause i have no confidance that i can take down cargo ships by myself when i was taking that one C3 tanker down i took me a good 30 to 60 seconds before i got the torpedo fired thats cause the water kept bluring my vision on the periscope and the firing chart was erasing the ship as i was adjusting the firing.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

My father grew up in Vlissingen before WW2 and had a rather funny story to tell about "Orzel's" launch. "De Schelde", the shipyard where "Orzel" was built, usually launched ships on Saturday afternoons in those days. The local daily newspaper, which was delivered early in the afternoon, would usually announce launchings, along the lines of "ship XXX was successfully launched at the "De Schelde" yard this afternoon." Sure enough, on the Saturday "Orzel" was scheduled to be launched, a similar short story appeared about her successful launching. Only........ it wasn't successful. In front of a large gathering of Polish dignitaries and shipyard top brass, "Orzel" flatly refused to budge after the champagne bottle had been cracked, and obstinately stayed on the slipway despite all efforts of the yard personnel to get her moving! In the end, the launching had to be rescheduled, and took place a few weeks later...... this time, as reported by the paper, successfully.
