Hello, i'm super n00b so please bear with me. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Right nwo I have the ability to go arcade "sim" (perhaps i'll do both... i dunno yet..). The one thing I seem to be having a problem with (so far) is which game (arcade or sim or sim-ish) lets you host your own dedicated Server?

I just bought Blazing Angels and besides other problems it won't let you host a dedicated server. Nor will Heroes of the Pacific. I have the ability to run a server (gotta cool boss at work that lets me run my own rig on the company's T1) and i'd REALLY like to do that, but I don't know which games will let me. At first I didn't even give it a thought. But after buying a couple games (and a rather expensive IR Trackview thing) i'm finding out that the ability to run a server is not "a given" like it is with most FPS games.

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask such a question, but I don't know where else to post it. Thanks in advance for your time and help. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

This game has the ability to host games in two modes, dogfight or cooperative.

Dogfight mode is a perpetual arena which players can join at any time (provided there are vacancies on the server), choose which base they will fly from and choose whatever aircraft have been made available at that base by the mission designer. There are 3rd party tools that allow the server host to set rules for mission success and map rotation. There are no set courses or squadrons but the briefing may give hints or instructions about where targets can be found.

Cooperative mode is like single mission but for many players. A bunch of people join befor mission lauch and each chooses and aircraft from a list of available aircraft. There is briefing which gives players some idea what their mission goal is and displays the course of the aircraft they've chosen. Once all players indicate they're ready, the host launches the mission.

For Dogfight mode there is dedicated server software available for the merged version of the game. The merged version consists of the last 3 versions of the game installed together as a single installation and is now available on a single DVD. The dedicated server software is a free (but very large) download of a number of components. See http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/4721047273 for a list and locations.

THANK YOU THE MAN (and ya got my vote http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)! I was hoping for something other than Dogfight (maybe something along the lines of Capture the Flag, only with planes), but at this point i'm not going to be picky.

That merged DVD you mentioned, what's the name please? And thanks for your help! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I do not think the dvd has the dedicated server software on it.You will have to download that. The core is rather large and there are many patches that are needed. There is software for both the merged and Pf standalone games.
