I live in the south east of england, about 2 miles from manston airport, a frontline BoB airfield. This morning i awoke with a slight hangover, and was looking out of my bedroom window at blue sky, when i started to hear the sound of a multi prop aircraft getting louder and louder. Then a Lancaster flew overhead with its gear down no more than a 200 metres overhead as it was on final aproach turn to land at manston. It was perfectly above and it looked beautiful!!
I remembered that margate was having a mini airshow this weekend, and wondered where the spit and hurri were. Sure enough, i while later i saw them flying in formation all together, all from my bedroom. Later on i went up to the garage, which is right on the southwest corner of the airfield, and chased all three of them down the road! I parked up at the garage and i realised wyh i hadnt seen the spit and hurri earlier, they made a much sharper turn to there final approach. So there i was, at a summerfield 24 hour petrol station, watching a spit and a hurri turn over me, no more than 50m's away. I watched the lanc come in, and was surprised to see someone in the top turret?

and the reason to be jealous? There doing it all again tommorow http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

ps, i'll have my camera ready tomorrow

I just beat you noobs! The Cavanaugh Flight Museum in Dallas,Tx. is giving rides on the B-17 named Liberty Belle today. I saw the B-17 Friday and just now a Corsair flew over! Never seen that guy before. I couldn't tell what type it was as he was moving at a pretty good clip. Interesting how we all seem to live near airports. What kills me is no one seems to notice these aircraft except me. My neighbor calls it noise while I call it music!

Pwah! So you saw a B-17, when was teh last time you saw a Lanc in teh air?

(B-17 very sweet plane.)

It's not the B-17 that threw me it was the Corsair. I've never seen a Corsair flying around here before. I agree 100% on the Lanc.
I think the Lanc is probably one of the best looking bombers of WWII next to the P-61.

Who ever is the first to see this fly is teh winner!

Look how bad it was when they found it. Amazing work! I need to make a trip out there to see for myself.

Check out the recovery photos.

A poor sight would be the one hear in Beijing. I believe it's the only complete P-61 surviving, although barely, in the world. It sits outside of the universities, being slowly biodegraded. It's a real shame.

Still one of the most steady PR platforms going though. The pilots of them are upset all the airframes are now spent because there still a great PR aircraft ever built.

I know, I know....I was being facetious.

I think it was some kind of 'historic' appearance by the Canberra (dunno, maybe the Queen likes 'em or summat), particularly being in company wiht the Red Arras.

You can still order this plane custom-built new from a company in Lithuania...about $45,000 USD, but can only be listed as "Experimental" in the US. Bummer too, an affordable Biplane with great cargo room.

I was having an idle mooch through North Korea the other day, courtesy of Google Earth and that place is knee deep in An-2s. They love 'em.

Don't seem to like cars though. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif
