A quick read article on the aircraft mounted 30 cal machine guns.

Quote... The Browning .30 caliber is a work of art. It weighs nearly 1/3 less than it's ground cousin weighs. Virtually every part has been machined to reduce its weight. With a 300 mile per hour slip stream to cool it, the barrel can be thin and light.

Who is the fellow was on the cover?

Found this:

Alexander Le Gerda, 853rd Ordnance Company, Gunnery School, Las Vegas, Nevada

Wonder if he's still with us...

P-47 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
anyway, few have doubted that........ its just so that Maddox decided to put not much API in the .50cal Browning belt in game http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif (Browning .50 // APIT - AP - HE - AP <- actually a dead horse)

to compare some of the light MGs:

i would say the soviet SchKas was the best of the breed.............

I see only 3 open breech's, but 4 ammo stores.
That front section of the CPit screams P47 to me.

Ok I'm confused, how did a 30 caliber thread turn into a 50 cal thread? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

No man...soon as I saw it...I knew that was a P-47 and not a P-51 at all.

But you are right about the .50cals mounted there. Looks like pure API. I don't see any APIT either...

You are wrong.

It's just the contrast of the photo.

Aluminum is reflective.

The ammo belts are in a relatively dark location in the picture, hence they reflect dark.

Trust me, I have an associates degree in underwater flora photography. I would know.
