Skychimp was dissapppointed when he saw corsairs on the Lady Lex's deck. I wonder what he'll say when he sees those Mitchells!

Maps listed... I'm gonna edit this a little since it's a google translation of french (my personal comments are in paranthesis):

"the zones simulated about for sure will be "

1. Oahu (cool, but only useful for one battle)

2. Midway (cool, but only useful for one battle)

3. Guadalcanal (a better choice, plenty of action there.

4. Singapore (good action, and geta southern malaya in there as well, still short-lived)

5. Milne Bay (A little piece of New Guinea, good for a start, anyway (Lae area might have made more sense, 5th AF built strips really close to Lae while it was still Japanese))

6. Iwo-Jima

7. Chi-chi Jima (Get the senior president Bush a copy with a plane painted like his in RL, and get some good, free press ;-)

8. Okinawa (Kamikaze heaven (no pun intended) (wtf, pun intended))

9. Tarawa (a target)

10. the southern point of Japan (some B-29 missions and CVs on coast I guess)

11. Wake Island (Good for a couple missions for F4F drivers, then it's just a random target for US CVs later (I realize these little islands are probably easy to knock out, and since they are tiny and flat, will make less of a FR hit))

12. Mariannes

13. Palau

Bad google translation follows: <BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>"(there is already what to make with this, it is necessary to add several charts multi and naval charts for the combat of aircraft carrier). Put a serious option on Luzon and Leyte, although nothing is less sure than their final availability (that will depend on the serviceable time). If chart continental (Burma, southernmost China) it must have, they will have however to await the later extensions and patches."<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I have to say that the Lex is one versatile ship!

By the way, shots look good.

I like the way the water washed over the deck:

Suprised the Betty isn't doing a 'victory roll' over the Prince of Wales as she settles.

looks nice how there are several cobra skins in use at once...

and look at that, looks like the B-25s for the tokyo bombing dont have the pod guns of AEP http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif and i bet this means we get to have the doolittle raid as the start of the bombing campaign :P

yes?
Never heard of Army aircrafts carrier transit before? Do you think Cactus Cobras are always flying straight from Espiritu Santo to Henderson Field? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If the Lady Lex is the USN carrier which is always chosen to illustrate the screens whatever they are, I suppose you're bright enough to guess it is primarly because it is the only one made available so far in this BETA release (I recall the status of the version we have here...).
Thanks http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

That's right, I'm not shocked to see other planes on a CV, many Army types were ferried to the front on CVs. I'd hope landing would be ugly though http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif .

Looks pretty good, and see, that Betty seems to be dropping that torp at a much lower altitude than the Kate was. I wonder if it is still too high for some people? All the shots look great though.

I have full color footage of P-47 Thunderbolts taking of from a carrier. I think i even saw some P-38 on carriers in one video.

Btw, i wonder how the P-400 will handle. Many people think that the P-39 was tricky to fly although that was pure BS and many training videos proof the contrary. It wasn't a ***** to fly. They simply couldn't use it as a turn and burner in the Pacific and that's where all the bad rep came from. Same for the P-40. I just hope that we don't get such a weird FM for the P-400, which is based on myths, like the early P-39 in IL2 where it entered a flat spin as often as a cherry blossom.

For the most part, same here, although I'm beginning to dispair for a lack of a Yorktown Class. No indications of a CV5 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif, CV6 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif, or CV8 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/cry.gif being present.

Oh well... I guess that's what imagination is for. Don't get me wrong, PF is definitely gold in my book... just would be a bit weird not to see these three flattops in the finished product.

Cheers All,

Realizing that this is still a work in progress, I am concerned about the arresting gear pay out as shown in that C6 video. I sure hope they get that figured out before release. It also appears as though they don't have a whole lot of wind over the deck yet. Those Corsairs should fairly leap off the deck with only fuel and ammo for a loadout, and starting their deck run where they did. Another thing I am concerned about is the lack of any kind of lasting wake. It will be nearly impossible to spot the carriers from any altitude unless the ships leave a pretty significant wake behind them.

The one thing in that video that caught my attention was the LSO's screen! A very nice touch.

Didn't I read in this forum a long time ago that there were 9 CV(E/L) classes to be modelled in game? We know of 3 so far.

If the Essex and Yorktown classes were in, plus a couple IJN types, that'd be 7. Anything past that would be gravy IMO (though I'd love to see a CVE for the USN since we built over 100 of them).

That shot of the Bettys attacking Prince of Wales is sweet, if for no other reason than they're actually dropping thier torps at a realistic altitude. Also notice that once again, there isn't any flak coming from the ship.

The Japanese attacked the PoW and Repulse with both Bettys and Nells, didn't they? It's been years since I read "Battleship : The Loss of the Prince of Wales and the Repulse" but I could have sworn that both types of bombers were employed in the mission.

But you're right... Nells would be cool.
