View Full Version : IL-2 Series Just About Wrapped?

Is IL-2 just about over now?

I heard of one more patch and I believe it's finished after that.

I just wanted to say it's a great series of flight simulation. Just about the best to come by.

I can't really think of Maddox throwing anything in anymore. Maybe some of the unreleased aircraft on the development page.

Actually I don't want you to release anymore patches. Maybe that would get it through our thick minds to stop pleading for more. We're just really spoiled.

Have fun developing Battle of Britain. I might buy it in the future. Who knows? Maybe something else might capture my attention.

Don`t believe anything you hear until you hear from Maddox http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

No, it`s not a wrap yet.

Cheers!

Unfortunately, Ivan doesn't call the shots over a Maddox Games

He's often 'in the know', but don't take his comments as set-in-stone-1C:Maddox-Games-policy http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Some folks who come in here to ask these questions seem to not realise that Oleg himself has mentioned that the sim is a test bed for aspects of his new sim now. It's not 'wrapped', but many things that people seem to want very badly aren't going to get addressed

Personally, I want FB 'wrapped', because we all know it's old. It's time for the next greatest thing now, and that promises to be 1C:Maddox Game's next WWII flight sim. The sooner FB/PF is 'wrapped', the sooner we get BoB

I am looking forword to BoB as well and some day IL2 will be second fiddle to the latest greatest.
However this sim has at least a couple of years relevence left to it and I expext many people may fly it longer than that as not everyone will be into the BoB thing and may not have the computing power to play it as well.

Which I've got nothing against myself. Hey, it could very well be that what we've _got_ already gets even better with that policy http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

And never mind "complete", because nothing ever is anyway...

I am looking forward to BoB.... in the meantime though... even if there were no other patches coming from 1C I will be flying this sim until something comes along that gives me the same rush as this one... and I just dont see that happening any time soon. In fact if you take away the whole FB series.... I have not seen anything new or already released that even could compete with IL2 for my attention... let alone FB.

My hope is that BoB is delayed till 2007... that way.. they can really work in the integration of BoB with all the new hardware that is just now coming out but hasnt really hit the street yet. It will give users time to catch up.

IMO FB 4.xx is unequalled.. there are sims that may do some things better.... but as a total package it has no competitors. It is far from wrapped.... except for those gimme gimme gamers.... anyone serious about flight sims or WW2 aircraft who already flies this sim will be here.... unless of course someone releases someting that is a better total package than FB... and like I said I just dont see that happening.

Well that depends on what's your particular cuppa T, off- or online? I myself probably _will_ give Shockwave's BoB:WoV a spin if it ever comes out...

Wrapping up FB isn't going to bring BoB online any sooner. BoB is still waiting for new PC technology to come into production and for the average flight Sim enthusiast to have that technology sitting on his desk. The longer we wait for BoB, the better it's going to be.

Agree - the longer we wait for BoB, the better ( because, please god, I can't buy a new rig right now ).

But I'll be flying 4.whatever right up to the day before BoB comes through the door ... whether they add more or not.

A good standpoint. So logically, if we wait 100 years, it will be very good ideed.

We can't anticipate the speed of innovation- nobody can. the higher tech you want to go, the more uncertainty as to when technology is developed (that's from 10 years in the high tech composites industry http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif). It's all a gamble. You can't just sit on a technology waiting for the curve to catch up

When FB is wrapped up, then no more time will be spent on it. Therefore, more time is spent on the projects that are pending- like BoB. Soonest begun, soonest finished

Oleg's WW2 RTS was dropped by it's publisher, Codemasters. I don't expect to see it for a very long time, if ever.

Oleg's game may be "old" but it is still best!

I'm looking forward more to what follows BoB than BoB itself...it just seems so far away and I'm fairly impatient.

Sometimes I wonder how old a sim is if there isn't anything coming out close to it? BoBII by shockwave is going to be a dissappointment based on what I'm reading...it will not look a whole lot different and it is the same game engine and has some of the same quirks...and it is missing two major aspects of sims... multiplay and mission building...I know that missing those aspects will shorten a sims lifespan by years but if you look at the business stragegy employed by Shockwave, they are not in it to create a loyal following and build from there...I get the distinct impression that Oleg intends to stay in this arena as long as he can make money at it and enjoy what he is doing.\

For the future of FB/AEP/PF, I hope Oleg finds a way to continue making money off of it so the development continues...BoB is a long way off.

It will be great if 1C could find some way to merge the code of the two..... wouldnt it be a hoot if that was the last add on to FB...

S~!

Oleg is not ******ed. He will give us bits and pieces till B.O.B is released. As for merging the two titles, that would be stupid in the extreme. Thankfully it would also be a technical nightmare, so on to B.O.B.

I think it would be ultra cool if a flight sim also allowed for tanks, artillery and ground forces... I don't know if the computing power is available to do it well or the internet connections either...but the idea...oh the idea...yes that would be cool if it could be done right!

Not yet, but I'll bet we'll see it in the future!

I'm silently thinking in by myself that Oleg wants further to develop this sim a bit more. But, UBIsoft's (financial) intrests are somewhere else. Like you remember how it went with the 4.01 Patch? Maddox got it on a Russian server (where 1C is the distributor) and UBIsoft lagged behind a few days. I think because they did not want to pay too much attention to it.

You seem to be getting the point now, but as with your usual replies, you've taken it to extremes. There's a good reason we've seen few updates on BoB development and FB has nothing to do with it.
