Best thing is to teach yourself (not the help you were after, I know... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) and this is as good a place to start as any I've ever seen:

Good luck,

also if you want to create a website without all the coding you could look into a Content Management System like Joomla or Mambo.

http://www.joomla.org/

mambo site seems to be dead.

I have 3 words for website newbies: Google Page Creator.

Google picassa helps add to the experience.

Eventually, if you stick with it, you'll pay for hosting. Its natural.

You need a host with php and mysql.

After that you can use predone site and forum like PhpNuke and PhpBB: both are free... the host is not.

I did my squadron' site with MKportal and phpBB (click the banner in my sign)

as far as hosts are concerned Bluehost are one of the best in my opinion... cheap as well. They're constantly upgrading as well...

Ya man no problem.

Total cost for me is $10 USD a year for the domain name.

1st - Get a computer and install Windows 2003 server. Of course I have a copy of this operating system - Cost to me $0

2nd - Install IIS on server - this will give you wesite hosting capabilities.

3rd - Install Frontpage 2003 on your regular PC and start designing your website.

Ya this is the super simple way of explaining what I did.

The reality is get a decent PC and put Linux on it. Linux = Free!

Then run Apache server on it this is also free and there is plenty of info on how to setup both Linux and Apache on the web.

Building the site. Well there are free apps out there that can do that as well. I started with Trellian Webpage and you can find that here: http://www.trellian.com/webpage/index.html
Help setting up is here: http://www.build-your-website.co.uk/Using-Trellian-WebPage-Tips.htm

Linux I would recommend is here: http://www.ubuntu.com/

Forum is here: http://www.ubuntuforums.org

And Apache is here: http://www.apache.org/

And I bought my domain name here: http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/default.asp

My site is here http://greyfoxonline.org

Also as I am operating out of my home my I.P address changes from time to time so you need a free account at http://www.zoneedit.com/ and what this does is keep your I.P. changed when it changes from your provider.

Good Luck!
