Stopped by the local Tim's to get a coffee and noticed there was a lot of air activety from the local flying club. Went over to see what was going on and found out it was the annual charity fly day. While sitting there noticed this a/c taxiing in. Something looked different about it and when it got closer saw it was a Hurricane. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Had to leave to take care of some business but stopped to see if it was still there on the way back. Nope. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

So drive home and while putting the hog away and hear a noise. Look up and it is the Hurricane. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif Then right after that a Texan flies over. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif

Real nice of Micheal Potter to have 2 of his a/c from his collection show up at this charity event. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Phoned the parents since Dad is ex RCAF and found out his brother while training used to buzz his future wife's house which was just down the road from my grandparents house when on one of his cross country training flights. He later went on and was training in Seafires for the FAA but the war ended before he was assigned to a squadron.

This led to another story on another uncle (full time RCAF but not a pilot) who would fly over my mother's (actually the grandparents house) house a drop flour bags to signal that he and his wife (Mom's sister) would out that night for supper.

Called a friend last night to ask if it was Potter flying the Hurrie.

His reply was that Potter was in England looking at buying a Lancaster. If he does that will mean there will be 2 flying here. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

For more on Potter and his a/c see, http://www.vintagewings.ca/page?s=63&lang=en-CA

There are only a handful of Lancs in this country, only 2 of which are possibly flyable. One is operated by the BBMF and flies and Just Jane at Kirby which could fly if the owners wished it to.
Others are in Museums although there was one which went to Kermit Weeks in America.
Have a read of this thread for some ideas
