I'm considering getting it - actually I'll probably go out tonight and buy it. Problem is I don't usually have the patience for WW2 aircraft anymore - I can stand so much, but after a while it just gets too frantic for me. I loved Dynamix' AOTP - it was one of my favourite sims. I also played CFS2 (which was set in the Pacific) but Microsoft games never have a good campaign engine, and their pilot listings/statistics/comparisons are nonexistent, so I never really enjoyed it. Maddox Games (the folks behind Pacific Fighters) tend to have a reasonable campaign structure (not as good as the one Dynamix pioneered, but I doubt we'll see that exceptional balance of simplicity and quality again).

These days I prefer the ease and slow pace of WW1 aircraft, which is why I played Red Baron 3D for so long. Even that is a bit too frantic for me these days (I'm getting old and my attention span is shrinking year by year), which is why I've been waiting for a good U-Boat sim for such a long time. I'm a sub commander at heart. Weeks of intense boredom followed by hours of mind-breaking tension - that I can deal with.

It's great. Coupled with IL2 Sturmovick Forgotten Battles it is really a fun sim.

It's the standard Maddox Games fare - dogfights not very challenging and problems in terms of stupid enemy AI tactical routines and flak that is way too accurate (which makes it too simple and too deadly at the same time - the usual Maddox problems that exist in all their games and which the developer won't even acknowledge, let alone fix). It's fun and nice to look at, but not all that realistic in my opinion.

Sure, it's the best sim available right now, but that says more about the sad state of modern simulations than it does about the quality of this particular product. Basically Maddox has no competition, so he has no real reason to take a long hard look at the problems with his sims.

I'm lovin' it so far. Haven't really noticed any bugs that some other people have been reporting, but who knows.

If you liked Aces of the Pacific, you should like this one http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
